I love to watch the pro game. I'm glad its back. I usually only have time to catch a periord of a game a night, but I missed it. I think they put in some new rules to open the game up a bit. Who has the scoop?

One change is the size of the equipment goalies will wear, it will be smaller. Companies are already making the new equipment.

Most goalies are taking the change in stride, but some are reluctant.

Also the 2005 draft, although a bit weighted for some teams, ALL teams will have at least one 'ping-pong" ball for the lottery. This means the Bruins could get Sidney Crosby.

I firmly believe they (NHL) must remove the red line to increase scoring. That has yet to be determined.

This is sweet. At least it will be if:
1) The the stupid Jacobs family (owners of the Boston Bruins) takes the gift the league gave them in the form of a salary cap and uses it to put together a competetive team.
2) Stupid family from #1 uses the savings to lower ticket prices so that I can actually afford to go to a game more than once every 5 years.

It sure will be interesting to see who ends up on which team when all of this is done.

I missed it terribly! Especially Playoff time.
I've read they want to add an extra round to the playoffs like the AHL has. I think it's stupid. Keep the 16 team playoff format. One of the gripes about hockey was that too many teams make it to the playoff anyways. The Red Line does have to go. I don't like to see ties but I'd rather they just settle it like they do in the playoffs, Sudden Death. Why change the rules of the game just for the playoffs? Baseball does not, football either.

Glad hockey will be back. Going to a hockey game is the best sports entertainment out there. Nothing else comes close.

Yeah, the two line pass rule really slows down the game. I wish they would open up the rink to international specs too. (When pigs fly!) It would eliminate some of the hitting (therefore fighting) and make the game more graceful. Also, nothing is better than a nice, clean open-ice hit!

At least it hasn't been 86 years... It only feels like it! :lol:

As for the changes, they really should eliminate the red line. I really enjoyed hockey back in the late 80s and early 90s, before that stupid neutral-zone trap killed the excitement. I'd like to see a more coninutous flow too. They should start penalizing goalies for delay of game when they trap the puck when the nearest opponent is 30 feet away. Enourage goalies playing the puck up the boards by eliminating the icing call for goaltenders only. I'm tired of the old hand off to the d-man behind the net where he dribbles it for 30 seconds only to rifle a shot up the glass that bounces into the bench or goes all the way down for an icing.

As for the fighting - I'd rather see two guys duke it out for a minute (my wife certainly doesn't agree) than see someone get really hurt from a nasty spear, slash, or other cheap shot like we've seen recently.

yup, two line pass rule is lame. college hockey has some really exciting moments when they can steal the puck and pass it right down to the other zone. break aways and odd man rush is exciting hockey even if scores did not increase (which they would).

You asked for a wildcat's fan and that is me. I used be one of the blue-haired guys that lead all the cheers when I was there (fall 93- Spring 97)

as for the pro game. i'm glad it is back. It will give me something to watch each night during the winter. However if i have a choose of UNH hockey versus the pros, The wildcats will be my choice.

nice. my post had originally been in reference to Stephen's post which he has now confirmed my suspicion i attended uml from 96-00 and was involved with the hockey band there for two seasons and as a season ticket holder for two more (ski team commitments prohibited continued participation with the band unfortunately). even though college hockey is slower and at times more sloppy than the pros, the excitement due to the rivalries between colleges close enough to drive to away games make things more exciting at most hockey east arenas than the fleet center (the garden is gone (RIP) and i refuse to call it by that name). i have visited all the HE rinks except providence to follow the hawks, and things can be quite exciting (and occasionally ugly!) when you're a visiting fan (and especially when the away team is winning!). great times for sure OYou asked for a wildcat's fan and that is me.
