That's gross. I dont care what some jean company says, if you dont wash your jeans somewhat regularly, they're going to have plenty of bacteria and nastiness on them after 3 or 4 wears.

You must freak the F out touching public door handles, etc. then.

When there dirty, I guess about every 5 times out for the snow pants, and maybe 3 times in winter for the coat.

You dry clean your dry clean clothes after every wear?

Close. Probably every 2 to 3 wears.

How about your suit?

I have a bunch of suits (former Wall Street worker) and it depends. If it's a hot summer day and I'm walking around the city or on business in Orlando? One wear only. If it's regular, mild conditions? Probably 2 or 3 wears. I was on a name basis with my local Chinese dry cleaners in the city. I was like Norm at the Cheers bar (okay, not really that bad).

No. I'm just saying it's nasty to go 1000 wears in jeans without washing them. There's definitely going to be quite a bit of bacteria buildup, and unless you're a eunich (any eunichs here?) they're going to have "man smell" after numerous wears. I'd say I wash my jeans after 3 or 4 wears.

I know a guy who buys jeans at some exorbitant price, like 500 bucks or something like that. Never washes them.

He puts them in the freezer to kill any bacteria. I must admit, theres some truth to the matter, as Ive left socks outside overnight and they magically dont smell in the morning.

That being said, I cant think of a bigger tool than the guy who buys 500 dollar jeans, then cleans out the freezer to do laundry.

I'll respond with two points:
1. It's an "as needed" as basis. If I wear jeans for a few hours to go out to a movie, I'm not washing them. If I wear them all weekend at my buddy's bachelor party, they're getting washed.
2. Bacteria just builds up a better immune system.

This is a wives tale, like not swimming for at least an hour after you eat or if you cut hair it grows back "thicker" (also both false).

Freezing jeans is not going to kill all the bacteria. It might kill 10% or 20% or 36% of them, but it's not going to kill them all, it's just going to slow them up and cool them off. They're resilient little bastards.

That being said, I cant think of a bigger tool than the guy who buys 500 dollar jeans, then cleans out the freezer to do laundry.

I agree on this point.

Underwear and thermals and socks go in every run. Soft tops probably every 5 or so unless I'm really sweating. I only wash jeans every four or give days unless I'm sweating in them.

I actually asked this question because the gore TeX material says the waterproofing is improved if you wash it regularly. Not supposed to use anything special for waterproofing just detergent.

Ski outergear = once at the end of the season. Just because I don't like packing them away funky.

Regular clothes = as needed. Which is considerably less often ever since the widespread smoking bans.

A couple times a season. I use powder detergent to clean my ski clothes, there's supposedly something in liquid detergent that isn't good for the waterproofing. The waterproofing does seem to last longer since I switched to powder detergent.

My parka has been washed once in the 4 years I've had it. My shell gets washed once a year if I remember and pants the same until this year. I picked up a pair of light gray pants on a killer deal but damn they get dirty easy. I've washed them twice already.

As long as you're changing underwear and base layer shirts everyday, you can go quite a few days on the other stuff before you actually NEED to wash it. And hanging stuff in the sun is much better for killing bacteria than putting it in the freezer. Bacteria are notoriously good at surviving cold temps. Heat, UV rays, and dryness are much better enemies.

The FJ is starting to smell like a locker room so the wife tells me. It is getting close to being time.

It doesn't really matter how funky my clothes get since no one will ever smell them over the dank stench coming from my boots.
