Hunter 3/5/2013

Day started out cloudy and cold. Very good groomed conditions on most runs, but a bit tough to see well with very flat light. By 10:30 or so it started to brighten thankfully and the West side opened up including... WESTWAY. Well that made for an interesting day. It was chunky, crusty, and strange, but much fun. Lapped that until about 2:30 or so and then headed for home. Great conditions, great weather, great day.

Thanks for the report. Saw Westway on the snow report and thought it might have been a mistake. Nice to see its open again.

Are they making snow on Westway? When I was up there two weeks ago, almost everything they made in early Jan was gone. Seem odd they would do that this late in the season. Annapurna hasn't been open in a couple of years.

I do not believe they made any snow. It appears they got some snow which froze up solid and then got a bit more on top of that later. It was strange, very hard, but edgeable (?), with loose snow and broken chunks on top. Base probably wasn't more than several inches thick, just enough to cover the rocks, but too hard to cut through and hit stuff (mostly). Unusual and challenging, but fun, if only because it was different than typical Hunter conditions.
