it tooks me 40+ minutes to get through their main entrance choke point at the snow bowl and 83 crossing.
there were 2 guys trying to direct traffic but the main problem was the pedestrians to and from the lower parking area next to the riverside drive stopping the flow of the traffic. they really need a pedestrian bridge. it's actually not safe.
i know, i know, it was a pow day on weekend but what a mess.

so it was my first time visiting hunter in probably 5~7 years. is it always this bad? i don't remember it being this bad.

The lines look pretty bad for a weekday (according to the cams). If you plan on going on a pow day or a weekend and already have your pass, go up the back way (bellayre exit, right at shandaken, right onto 23 and just park at the north base.

that's exactly what i do and did yesterday. this choke point is at the entrance. the lines were ridiculous but that's expected on a pow day.

Hunter's crowding is an ongoing issue. Yesterday would have been busy due to the snow anyway. However, since they have lift issues everything is worse. There were insane lines, not enough terrain, and people were crashing everywhere due to the sticky glue snow they now make. I know 4 who have done face plants due to snow just stopping then and sending them flying. An instructor, Gail, has a black eye and hurt shoulder due to this.

Today was just as crowded, however, there was still parking when I have up at 10:30, but the lift lines were crazy, and no D lift to take some of the crowds. SS

i misunderstood you here. i thought the north base is up where i went. looking at the map, i think i know where the north base is now. i am going to try that next time i go up there. does the north base chair run all the time or just on weekends?

Pretty much every day at this point in the season. Just know that you've got to get on to Overlook before patrol ropes it off at 3:30.
