This has nothing to do with Belleayre or any other ski area. Not everybody is against Hunter. Chill out. Jeeze.

For the record I personally would love to see Hunter do a land swap deal with NY state and build a Funitel all the way to the top of the Hunter Mtn fire tower for close to 2000 feet of vertical.

In the mean time I would think z-Lift needs to be replaced with a HSQ before replacing the HSQ with a six pack.

Its a damn shame that NY state does not have 2000 feet of vertical skiing in the Catskills.

YOu just keep bringing it up over and over again... We get it...

there already is 2000+ vert.... you just gotta work for it.. Slide Mountain is going to be sweet!

Slide is only 1700 vert. Mt Tremper or Plat Clove Road will get you 2000 vert.

From Belleayre Web site.

Due to the outrageous amount of snow we have received over the last week in February, Belleayre will soon be offering FREE guided glade tours down to the town of Pine Hill! As soon as conditions allow we will be offering 11am and 1pm FREE guided glade tours down to Pine Hill with a complimentary shuttle pick-up! That's nearly 2000 feet of elevation through untracked woods! Please note, this offer will be for double diamond expert skiers and riders only!

H'mm replace HSQ (capacity of 2400) with high speed six pack (capacity 2400). Normally a high speed six pack has a capacity of 3000 - 3200.

It would seem that most ski areas would build more trail capacity first and then increase chair lift capacity later. Not the other way around. Very strange.
Adding trail acreage on state land is easier said than done. Though one state over, don't forget what Wachusett went through - treesitters!

I don't see any high speed six packs installed with a capacity of 2400 here:

Actually, that's exactly what Blue Mountain did. Their 6-pack was installed in 2006, but we didn't see Dreamweaver open up until 2008, then Nightmare in 2009.

yep

chairs are way spaced out on it. really no need for more capacity currently. longest I've waited all season in the singles line is under 10 mins.

I think the extra people will help stabilize the chairs during the wind...
Which was one of the big issues with the quad...

I was told during a windy day at Ragged this season that the actual weight of the chair itself helps quite a bit. Apparently they weigh 1200 pounds unloaded.

Yeah I have been wondering about that. For what its worth, I think I was here first. Obviously that doesn't mean anything.

Lately way too many negative comments here on AlpineZone. You would think 60+ inches of snow would bring out the best in skiers and riders.

If Hunter is willing to put in a 6-pack, move the HSQ over to Hunter West, and create more terrain in the next few years then all of the suffering caused by the QUAD over the last couple of years has been worth it!

Any expansion on the Westside would probably bring over a good amount of traffic therefore, moving the Quad to the current Y-lift location makes sense. The 500 or 600 less feat of elevation should take some strain off of the Quad. Also, I guess they could take off some chairs to also releve some stress from the Quad.

Now if Hunter is to expand, would they simply use the old master plan or does a more recent master plan exsists?

Belleayre IS the government and I've been told they're not being allowed to open the adjacent old ski area (forget the name) and those trails are already cut!

Hunter's problem is not the amount of terrain but the type. It's all expert from the top except Belt. Not sure how you solve that.

Not a problem... Just don't ski it if you can't... Hunter is for advanced skiers...
Generally people that bitch about Hunter can't ski it to begin with...

If you can't ski well... Stay on the lower mountain or Hunter One

anyone got a link to a pic of the old master plan? I love looking at master plans, even if they don't happen.

I had it... But I'm not sure what I did with it...

Basically laid out future expansion on the west side up to the Hunter property line...

cool

seems like a large tract of area between what is now Hunter West and the proposed lift. Not developable?

DMC knows far more than I do about that area, as I've only been out in the proposed area once or twice to ski the X-cut (where that proposed quad goes) a while back.

However, from what I remember from the slope of the land around there, it should be developable, but any new trails are going to fall into the new quad line, not loop back like Annapurna does. Go take a look on google earth.
