Hunter Mountain
Catskills NY State of Mind
Tuesday 1/06/09
Tuesday was a mixed bag day. (Certainly better than Monday: everyone we spoke to at Hunter reported that Monday was a sheet of ice and cold winds to boot. Monday night Hunter staff added about 5 inches with snowmaking.) So by Tuesday early a.m. was nice, if a bit over groomed. Loose granular with hard pack and sheet of ice just below the surface. Hard to cut, especially where sun hadn't hit yet. By 11 a.m. the sun melted some ice so it was better run. Not much in the way of lift lines to the Summit. Hunter West was closed part of the day because of solid ice, the re-opened, then closed again. I didn't get there. Early a.m. started at 13 degrees land crept up towards about 30 degrees by mid afternoon. All that hard-core ice lead to "jelly legs" and lots of skiers headed to the lodges by 1- 2:00 p.m. Still it was a good day: it was a SKI DAY!
