I will be in the area (Sarasota county) in early November. I hope this does not hit the coast as predicted. The condo where I stay is a rental property and is on the beach.

Cat 5, one of the strongest storms every...

I'm damn sure glad I don't and never will live in the Gulf region.

Give me a good old fashioned Nor'Easter blizzard any day. Screw that hurricane BS.

My Aunt and Uncle live in Bradenton, FL in one of those typical FL developments (cluster homes & gated community). They are in a flood zone (I think it is zone 1) and they will be the first to leave if there is a mandatory evacuation.

The price you pay to live on the coast. If my memory is correct, their development is 14 feet above sea level and only a few miles inland.

If this hits as projected, where do you go???????

I am heading down to Orlando on October 27th, hopefully there will not be too much damage there.
When I saw the central pressure drop 15mb in just 6 hours, that was a sign that this thing would turn into a monster.

I wish the people of Florida the best of luck to avoid damage and loss of life.

We are suppose to get rain on Sunday (not from Wilma). They are predicting 1 to 3 inches.

My in-laws were staying in their rented condo on Fort Myers Beach until this morning. The condo is right on the ocean, and they'll lose a week of rental, but they weren't going to take any chances. They got clipped by a smaller cat. 2 or 3 hurricance when they were there last yar, and that was enough for them.

I don't know if the evacuation was mandatory (yet), but it was strongly suggested by the local officials.

What are you talking about? Mother-in-law + hurricane = cancelled trip. Sounds absolutely perfect to me. ;)

I also have some family living in Naples, FL. Looking at the storm track link that Brettski posted, my guess is they're packing up and getting out of there.
