While i dont consider myself a great skier by any stretch, i think i've passed the intermediate level by a bit. but my ability to gape has never left me. my little story earlier, I was the guy assaulting the other skier. it happens to everyone but i seem to be able to take it to another level at times. Its all good. I have no problem laughing at myself.

Precisely why I like skiing with you. ;) I also recall the freezing cold day at Hunter when you forgot your goggles. The tears streaming down your face were priceless! Also, while certainly not a gaper move, I'll never forget the "lawn dart"! Yup - 2knees is fun to ski with...

Oh...and you're firmly entrenched in the upper advanced category...

From Urbandictionary.com:

A gaper is a skiier or snowboarder who is completely clueless. Usually distiungished by their bright colored clothes and a gaper gap, the gap between goggles and a helment/hat. Gapers also do the "Gaper Tuck" which is an attempt at being a ski racer by tucking, however, it is done incorrectly with the poles sticking straight up like thunderbolts and lighting, very very frightning! Gapers also sit at the bottom of jumps and try and go big off table tops in the park.

A beginner skier or snowboarder who has no clue as to what they're doing on the mountain. They crash all over the place and get in your way. Refered to as a gaper because of the gap between their hat and goggles, also known as a gaper-gap. See also Guppy

Oh I've been there.I rode the tram to the top of Cannon and got off and realized my skis were still at the bottom.

That's too funny! You gotta finish the story. What did you do? Walk down? Ride down? :spin:

Don't know if this could be considered Gaperish, but watching people get off the lifts at Whiteface on a nasty day was....interesting. My poor friend, his second day on skis was blown off the lift onto the safety netting, something I have never seen before. And getting off the lift at the top of the FIS run was...again interesting, pretty much a straight chute that ends in the woods if you don't bang a hard right...he didn't.

Here's an odd "Gaper" sighting. Evidently there's now a bar for gapers in Amsterdam!

I spotted this a couple weeks ago as I wandered around in the morning after arriving on a redeye. It was much too early for the bar to be open, so I can't say whether it's a good bar or not.

The worst I have seen was last year valentines day storm I stopped at the local small hill to get some powder runs in. The liftie was complaining to his boss about the crappy conditions and why would they even stay open with the trails the way they were. The boss just looked at him, looked at me and shook his head laughing as he walked away.

I do stupid things on a regular basis, and have no problem laughing at myself. Last year sliding down most of Clairs on my chest, hitting mogals and not being able to stop, all right under the chair.:D
