I'll only ski an icy bump run if it catches me by surprise... same thing for an icy run. After the first surprise I stay away from the ice. Sure, it's good to know how to navigate ice bumps and runs in a safe and controlled way (if at all possible), but there's no way I'd return to it on purpose.

I love bumps but I stay the hell out of icy bump fields. I ski for fun. It's not even practice under tough conditions. For me, it would be just an excercise in survival maneuvers.

Actually, I have the same attitude towards sking on any icy conditions - avoidance.

Useful purely for training. Forces you to focus on speed control and solid A&E. Plus, if you do bump comps, prepare you for variable conditions.

Agreed, no fun, but good for training. If you can ski ice bumps well, you can ski any bumps well.

wtf are you talking about?

and whats with using so many aliases? you're one weird dude.
Wow!
Did I call you a wuss?
or are your panties all in a bunch today?
I often look for the less than fun line to ski just to show off.
I have read how you will only ski a run if it is seeded and that is cooland all, but will those such actions make you a better skier?
Well, with that said enjoy.

i like hitten the bumps for a few when theyre soft - especially to get a workout. i typically don't deel like i'm getting any real exercise skiing unless i'm either in the bumps or racing. right now the bumps are solid ice so i've been staying away tho

Agreed here. If a bump trail is open, I'll ski it. Might not be pretty, but you can't deny it makes you a better skier. Delicate use of edges, staying flat skied on the iciest surfaces, picking the softest places to turn, etc., it all makes you better and more aware of what's under your feet. That still is fun to me. Not fun in the sense of let 'em rip spring or powder bumps, but fun nonetheless. Usually after 3 or 4 runs, they seem to get easier. I'll dial it way back though. Falling in ice bumps is no fun.

I voted bumps are for chumps---soft or frozen they are over rated

Suck at 'em, eh? ;)

I would've gladly skied them today if they were available at Crotched. I might only take a couple of runs in them instead of several, even bad bumps break up the monotony of a day spent almost entirely cruising. I don't really look at them as 'training' though, but I don't live in Connecticut  ;)

I try to avoid icy bumps whenever possible but I understand that they are useful & therapeutic for the hard-core bumpers. I guess that means that I'm not a hard-core bumper. I enjoy good bumps when I can get them so I could not vote for the bumps are worthless choice. I'd just rather avoid ice bumps if there are other options on the mountain that day.
