If you had to ski only one mountain for life, which one would you choose and why?

I think I would be happy in either place, but something about growing up in NH has me wanting to move back home and settle down in Jackson NH, or perhaps Bartlett. Wildcat is a great hill, and Washington and the easts best backcountry skiing is just across the street. I would be sacrificing quality tree skiing and about 100" of snowfall a season, but theres just something that pulls me back to NH.

It's funny, everyone I know that is from NH and moved away wants to move back, myself included.

I've never lived in the west and would be willing to give that a try but on the east coast New Hampsha was the best place I ever lived. The Whites and the lakes are a perfect combo for my life style.

Where I live now, the Upper Valley. As much as I love my home state of Maine, it is so arse backwards, and not very buisness friendly. Baldacci is the worst thing that ever happened to that state.

Back the Upper Valley, I love it, pretty much an hour to hour and a half drive to everything that is good in NH and Vermont and less then two hours from Boston.

Totally bumping an old thread, but Im starting to begin the hunt for a house and place to settle down, I find this question intriguing. I currently work in restaurant management here in Jackson, and the steps I have taken in my career allow me to live in a ski town for the rest of my life. Not to shabby in the first place.

I think if the stars all came together in the right order, it would be Stowe. Mansfield doesnt need much explanation, and Stowe's marketing stance and recent development supports my career in fine dining. My girl seems to have her heart set on the North Conway area and Wildcat, which is a much more attainable option. I do like Jackson, east and west.

Just don't open a restaurant in Stowe ;)

The money to be made in ski towns in the east from restaurants is NOT fine dining by the way. It's in Pizza.

If I had a nickel for every fine dining restaurant in ski towns in New England that failed.......

The lodge at Stowe is a total clusterhump. They have layed everyone off. pretty much a disaster from a professional stand point.

Someone told me a long time ago down at Mt. Snow that the restaurants in Vt. are more profitable in the summer. True?

depends on the town. Some places....Stowe, Manchester, Woodstock have a good summer business. Other areas like Okemo do not.

Summertime you have the advantage of school vacation and more steady midweek business where as it can still be pretty quiet midweek in winter. Also, depending on the restaurant, you might have more seating capacity in summer with patio areas. Christmas week and Presidents week are definitely the biggest money makers of the year though.
