The ones Vail employees use doThere's no arguing. Just trying to figure out if the handscanners display the photo of the passholder (I would figure they probably do).
Vails RFID scanners show the passholder picture.
EPIC colonoscopy; it's somewhat affordable & comes bundled with a bunch of other medical services, most of which you'll never use.wait so my epic pass includes a colonoscopy!?!? I didn't see that in the pass benefit section!
At Stratton last year, each time I rode a lift, they made me take my IKON pass out of my pocket so they could look at my photo. My memory is foggy, but I remember being irritated at having to pull out my pass after they had already successfully scanned it while still inside my sleeve. Probably didn’t want to invest in fancier hand scanners that display photo of cardholder, since they knew the gates were coming this year and they will have some new tablet devices to accomplish the task.
My memory of skiing Stratton last year is taking out pass for gondola but no so much other lifts.
I've seen some gate set ups where an employee is sitting looking at a laptop as people come through. Had a friend stopped at Sugarbush and at Stratton due to not having checked off some waiver box on the Ikon site. Wasa a PITA at Stratton because they had lines of folks at ticket window dealing with issues and only one person staffing. We started over at Sun Bowl. Good for parking. Bad for needing ticket window. Who knew?
Feel like I read on this forum that they are indeed incentivized to catch people trying to BS their way through. While I was at Vail some years back, the lift line employees were so meticulous & focused on checking everyone that I have a strong suspicion they are incentivized financially to "catch" EPIC cheaters, because there's just no way I believe they hired so many people at that wage who are as diligent & hard-working at their liftee job. There is only one Chick-Fil-A.

yes but on this particular Saturday in early December with a foot + of fresh snow they dd Not get their ticket window open until 10 and then they only had 1 person staffing it. With lots of folks having first day of Ikon use issues and not being let up the lift.... The line for that window built up and was moving super slow. My friend waited for an hour. I went and took a run then took another and then waited with him for a bit. There is a ticket window and guest services at sun bowl.
I have seen mentioned that Alta gives a cash bonus to lifties who stop theft of services.Feel like I read on this forum that they are indeed incentivized to catch people trying to BS their way through.
I think Stratton wanted to see the Ikon card to scan the bar code with the handheld unit. The picture is useless when you have a neck gaiter over your nose, goggles and a helmet on. Nobody ever asked me to pull down my neck gaiter. Also, they only scanned the base lifts. They will probably put the RFID gates on all the lifts like Sugarbush. At Stratton last year, each time I rode a lift, they made me take my IKON pass out of my pocket so they could look at my photo. Same at SR and I have seen lift ops catch some folks who totally didn't match the pictures on file. Big deal when that happens. So at sugarbush they have the tablet that shows the photo related to the pass so the lifties can get a good idea if someone is using someone elses pass. It must be hard depending on the weather and how people dress to determine a mismatch. Unless it is a guys name and a girl going through or vice versa.
Sugarbush also has that camera above the gates. I was told that they were going to get software that puts all the puctures together and alerts people if the images change. They then look to see if it was just a wardrobe change or did someone hand off a pass.
