I'm convinced, the subscription managers for Ski and Skiing mag are total morons

I have subscriptions to both. In August I get the Skiing Gear Guide, but no Ski magazine. I thought maybe perhaps my Ski subscription had ended. By mid October, I still haven't seen the skiing Resort Guide, so I email them and I get this for a response

Dear Ryan,

We apologize that you did not receive the October 2008 issue. We are sending you a replacement copy. You should receive it in 2 to 3 weeks.

Thank you for subscribing to Skiing.

Sincerely,

Nick Brown

Since that time I receive November issues for both magazines. Today I check the mail and there's a magazine sized vanilla envelope from skiing. SWEET!!! My long lost Resort Guide is finally here. NOPE, it's the gear guide for Ski magazine :???:

Honestly the two resort guides are the primary reasons I subscribe to the magazines. I don't really care about the rankings, I just like reading about all the places I dream of visiting.

So far, November 9th and I'm 0 for 2 on both issues

The subscription I had to Powder a few years back was like a crapshoot. I might get an issue, I might not.l It was maddening.

I subscribed to ski this year and they just sent me a bill. I could pay via check or CC. But they kinda forgot to put the cost of the subscription on the bill.

I've never paid for SKIING or SKI, but I get both sporadically anyway. Sometimes I would get two copies of the same one, one addressed to a misspelling of my name. As a matter of fact I think the one that I still get is addressed to the misspelling...

This year, I ended up subscribing twice to SKI thanks to all the renewal notices I got. Not one serial subscription, but two separate ones. guess I had another subscription once upon a time with a nearly-identical profile.
I get the sense the rag is in financial trouble, just like so many other paper mags thanks to the internet.

I did "LOL" at the irony of sending my bill for "Ski" magazine, to some place down in FLA.

Who actually pays for them?
I think the reason we get two is because we signed up for some give aways at a Warren Miller movie.
seems to me the advertisers pay for them. You can get them for as low as $5 year now. I know a lot of promotions include free mag subscription.
I got a free subscription because I registered for Nastar. Then I got another copy because I went to nationals. Then my daughter got a copy because she raced Nastar. Then I got a second copy because they thoroughly convinced me my subscription had expired.

Sometimes when these things happen, I just let everything expire, let the dust settle and start all over. I also used to get the giveaways that way too (free mug, tshirt, etc.)
I was just afraid I'd miss the important fall issues.
