I know I've seen it on here. At some point someone posted video of a fellow who was an avid expert skier, but lost use of his legs. He's now an amazing adaptive skier. I'm sure I could search through the forums, but I'm not exactly sure what key words would bring up the thread/video I'm looking for.

A really nice fellow I know from seeing live music is paralyzed from the waist down. He was an avid skier. Sadly, he was attacked in New York City and the assailant stabbed him in the head, which caused injuries that caused his paralysis.

He still talks about skiing all the time, but basically looks to enjoy it vicariously through people like me. I would really love to see him get involved in an adaptive program. This particular video I think would be inspirational for him.

Does anyone know the guy and video I'm talking about? I want to say he is a skier in Utah and I thought the footage was from Alta.

Thanks

I know what you're talking about, I was actually looking for that as well this past week or two. The video was actually in Hunter.

Don't know the vid you are talking about, but there's a big segment on them in the latest Warren Miller.

There's lots of footage out there, not sure which one you're talking about though. Quite a few from the x-games that are pretty cool.

A guy on TGR was in the x-games on a sit-ski. Pretty damn cool following his adventures. Doug Henry, who was a motocross guy who got paralyzed, is a Sundown regular on the sit-ski. I haven't seen him ski, but I've heard he's pretty damn good. There's some video around of him ripping on his modified dirt bike, but I haven't seen any of him skiing. I heard that he'll be going to the x-games too.

I don't know where your friend lives, but Sundown has really been ramping up their adaptive program in the last couple of years. They're associated with STRIDE (http://www.stride.org).

Don't know the vid you are talking about, but there's a big segment on them in the latest Warren Miller.

A young man who's associated with the adaptive program at Loon is in that Warren Miller segment. He skis in the adaptive program at Loon through UNH. His name is Tyler Walker. http://tylerwalker.org/

Bode's roommate is also involved with that program. Check this out for an interesting feat. http://media.www.theclockonline.com...n.His.Wheelchair.And.The.Summit-1006104.shtml

I have several friends who are involved with that ski program and other adaptive sports.
The program at UNH is fabulous for all adaptive sports: NortheastPassage.com. http://www.nepassage.org/paralympic.html

I have an amazing friend who runs the adaptive program at Loon; he's mentioned in the Mt. Washington article with Cam. He skis in a bucket better than most people ski on their legs. He just had his first baby this week. Very, very cool thing. : - )

My wife doesn't ski, so I try and spare her 'ski talk'. Just prior to posting my responses tonight I told her I was looking online for some inspiration for wheels.

Wouldn't you know it, but she started talking about the UNH program. Jess is an alum and her mom a UNH employee for the past 30 years.

Northeast Passage is the coolest. My friend Ed is given a big mention as a hockey player.

Let me know if you'd like to get involved in any way. My kids have tethered. I'm not capable of that. I can only help by giving money and try to get the word out for the winter sports.

Summer's are a whole different thing. I waterskied with the program this year. : - )

but you're wakeboard mom?

Indeed. I'm the mom of wakeboarders. Thus far they haven't been able to convince me to strap my feet into something that doesn't come off if I fall. I still rock it old school.

Although I skied in a seat with the adaptive program. They like to have the volunteers try it so they have an idea of what the athlete feels behind the boat. It was not as easy as it looks.

Greek Peak has an awesome program as well http://www.greekpeak.net/the-mountain/programslessons/greek-peak-adaptive-snowsports.aspx

Very good friend of mine (highschool buddy) was shot in the back and now is paralyzed from waist down (happened 10 yrs ago) but still is an incredible skier in his chair. Only problem is sometimes when he tumps over in the woods he has a problem getting upright again do to the snow not being groomed or firm. He's a great sport about it tho---we always joke with him, "don't worry pal they'll find you in April". Always good for a laugh or two.

Other good story that just happend 2 weeks ago......while waiting for a steeper section of the Trojan to clear out before taking off, this dude skiing on one leg and an outrigger goes BLASTING by my buddy Marshall and myself, I mean down right gettin after it. Marshall who is just starting to pick up the sport at the young age of 41 looks at me and says, " Hmmm, must be easier on one leg"---you talk about laugh, holy bageezus---we got a laugh at that.

Once again proving it doesn't matter how we do just that we do.
