Does CA stand for Continental airlines? I fly on the conti ERJ's between YHZ and EWR a lot. Just wondering if you're ever my pilot :daffy:

The CA means captain, but I do fly the ERJ's for Continental Express. I've only flown to Halifax a couple of times. BTW we're starting service to Mont Tremblant in the winter, so I'm hoping I'll get a long enough layover there this winter.

The only thing they have going for them is the population base of the area, but drawing the typical new york skier (the bulk of whom are notorious for only going skiing once a year when snow falls in NYC) over to jersey to ski on a bunny slope for $100 is going to be a really tough sell. I think this thing more belongs in Vegas as a Casino/Attraction or on some $10,000 an acre vs. $10,000,000 an acre easier to build on land to the North of NYC as a stand alone attraction featuring a crapload of outlet stores, hotels and possibly a Casino. You need a Casino attached to something like this to rake in the money the skiing is going to cost you.

Who knows how successful it will be but it will be part of a whole retail and entertainment complex called Xanadu. As for the casino there is a horse racing track right next door and there is a move afoot to get slots at the track, of course Atlantic City is fighting it but slots may be the only thing to save the racetrack, so we'll see what happens there. As for the $100 cost, that was just a number thrown out by Steeze, no one knows what it will cost to ski there.

THEN you have to drive piles hundreds of feet into the ground there to support a major structure and even after you're done doing that you're still prone to problems.

There is already an NFL stadium and an arena there, and they're building another NFL stadium, I think they know how to support the structure.

I figured it would be Conti as you guys are the most prolific users of the EJR's. I really like the ERJ's, they provide a nice smooth heavy jet like ride. I flew on a 170 operated by TED somewhere earlier this year too and it was equally as nice. I remember being confused walking out on the runway to it, My ticket said ERJ, yet I was walking to what looked like a 737. I was like huh, hope I haven't F&^^ED up here?!? lol. I think that series will have a really bright future as the connection flights get heavier and longer.I think you're hoping against hope on skiing at Tremblant, you guys mostly do out and backs it seems due to on duty times. I also imagine Conti flight crews based in Tremblant to take your place on the way back are in extremely short supply too! You could probably hitch a ride for free on your days off though couldn't you?? Why on earth would Conti pick now of all times to set up that service?!!? The dollar is at par and you need a passport to go. Tourism is flopping in Canada as a result. The exchange rate 3 years ago would have paid for the extra cost of the flight for New Yorkers vs. driving 3 hours or more to somewhere.

I know they do, but they have had problems with structure shifting there even after they've done everything they can do to engineer it too. My main point was it is exponentially more expensive to build on that land vs. solid farmland just 50 miles out of town AFTER you've been raped for NY proximity acerage. I understood retail was connected already and you pretty much made the point yourself that horse racing is dying a miserable death to conventional gambling. They are also building with the UNDERSTANDING they are going to have traffic problems there that will drive people away from visiting the area. Who builds something KNOWING they're going to have problems?!? Sigh. I actually thought of suggesting this might have been much better placed in Atlantic City as a new economic driver for that area. I just have a gut feeling it's going to be a money loser where they're putting it due to the construction costs and it would be work placed damn near anywhere else.

I would just save my money and go out west.

Agreed. Heck, I got out west 3 times a year now, even when its snowing on the EC. So definitely, going West would be a far better option and would present a much better ski/dollar ratio than this indoor abomination would.

Unfortunately, since I entered the wonderful but restricting world of parenthood it has become more difficult to just take off 5 days and go skiing out west.

Where can you ski out west in July, August, and September when you're jonsing for skiing the most...plus it says Xanadu will have an advanced slope:razz: I don't need the aethetics of skiing..I just need snow..fake or real

This is about what it'll look like inside. Maybe a little more finished and sparkly, but this'll probably be the guts of it.

Have you seen the plans for the Dubai Ski Dome (different from ski Dubai)? If they put something like that in New Jersey I'd make the trip.

I think you missed the whole exchange leading up to my comment:

Koreshot Says: if it never snowed on the EC again, i would consider going, otherwise no
AndyZee Says: even if it never snowed on the EC again, i would rather go out west instead
Koreshot Says: agreed, but with kids its hard to go all the way out west so in the imaginary world of no snow ever again on the EC, i would probably break down and ski indoors

Comprende?

As far where can I see in July, August and September - I have skied in July, in August and in September and loved every minute of it. Actually it was some of the best skiing I have ever done. Its call South America and until I had kids, I went every summer 5 years running.

I definitely need to ski in South America and New Zealand...I have the money for it and the vacation time..I should just do it because in a few years I could be married with children..and the cost of a babysitter for a week is alot..

I will definately check it out. I got Giants tickets so I know I'll be at the Meadowlands at least 8 times a year.

Also think it would be fun to go out there and get a couple of runs in and then go to the track in the middle of summer. Although it would probably take no more than 2 runs before I got insanely bored going down a 780 foot slope! Lets hope they put some cool jumps and a few moguls on the expert trail.

Since I have never snowboarded before I think I would probably use Xanadu as a place to learn how. A ski dome 15 minute from might Manhattan be the place for me to learn how to do it. After all why should I travel 5 hours to Vermont or 2 1/2 hours to the Catskills to fall down a bunny hill on a snowboard when I could go to the Meadowlands to learn.

Looks like it had a structural damage this winter:

On February 1, 2011, after a record-breaking month of snow for the area,[10] a 50 to 60-foot long section of the easterly wall had buckled and a horizontal crease was apparent on Xanadu's indoor ski slope. Two days later, on February 3, after workers were attempting to melt snow from the ski slope's roof, ice build-up caused the easterly wall to fail and suffer a partial collapse along an approximately 150-foot (50 m) length of roof.[11] Michael Beckerman, a spokesman for the project’s lending group stated “the Lender Group is aware of the damage to the roof caused by excessive snow and ice, but does not feel the damage affects the integrity of the structure. As such, the group has filed an insurance claim, and once the weather turns warmer, it will assess the damages and fix whatever is necessary.”[12]

I was just looking to see if there as a thread on these indoor places. My aunt lives in Germany and there is an indoor ski place just a few miles from her house, although I never actually tried it. (No glades??!!)

They have a german video (haha) at this link here.
