I Was curious about if my iPhone records my location on files on my MAC.... Downloaded the software to check it out... Wow.. There are files from the iPhone that save your location.
Not too accurate in some locations - i think these locations are triangulated when gps or 3g isn't available. No dots where I live because the cell reception blows.

My theory is it's leftover debugging from development....

Here's mine, definitely gets funky up in Maine where reception isn't good. They're saying the Droid has a similar file on it too.

I'm convinced you travel more in one month than I do in year. If I knew how to get the file off my Driod you'd laugh....it would have like 3 dots on it.

guess I'm just not a fan of being 'tracked'. I'm assuming my Blackberry has the same function.

I'm not a fan of anyone tracking me unless I consent..

My point is - now that I know about it - I can keep an eye on it.
Encrypting my iPhone backups is something I should've done a while ago...

I still think it's a leftover artifact of development.. Log files get written out all the time to debug issues or track application behavior.. Then they are supposed to be removed..

It's pretty benign - so I was near this cell tower at this time.. Like Camp said.. Got nothing to hide..

is that tracking picture you showed the extent of it or can it be refined and used for nefarious reasons

The actual data contains latitude and longitude down to the second. So if someone got ahold of it, they could tell when you are out of the house most, or what routes you travel daily, and how often you like to visit the strip club, etc ...
