Is Stateside lodge at Jay really that bad?

Was just reviewing some recent photos from my cousin's village in Ulic', Slovakia. Came upon the town ski-hill (where EVERYONE learns to ski) and it made me think of how Rivercoil diss'ed the Stateside lodge as being crowded and unnavigable. Well,stateside does have heat!

I've been there, hiked the mountains and walked the slopes, never in the winter though.

The cool thing is that many, many villages still have little rope tows like this and they don't cost a thing, the town runs them.

It's all about context. Jay is not the 'town hill'. It's trying to be a major player in the 'Resort' business. It's been years since I've been in the stateside lodge, but recall it being a bit innadequate.

Tis' small. I hit it at a good time for lunch, everyone else had the freebie lunch at the new hotel. The picture shows most of the lodge, maybe a row of tables missing. Kitchen is behind me. All I know is that I could get a "big ass" bottle of Long Trail Ale which made me very happy! How can I say anything bad..............

i actually kinda like stateside, its old and dingy but so what. as nice as the 'new' jay is and will be, i'll miss the vibe at stateside area once its all updated

Stateside is a disaster, but in recent news Bill Stenger finally bought full ownership of stateside in exchange for some land on the ridgeline to preserve hiking trails as well and the rights to a long term lease to the "propesed expansion area"...or something like that. Now he can develop.

Bill truly wants the best for Newport and Orleans county...the question is...can he maintain the Jay charm that has kept me coming back for over a decade now.. Personally, I think the answer is yes judging by the soup served in the bar.

Exactly. Can anyone think of another major resort with as dumpy a lodge? I can't WAIT until they replace that thing. I know they plan to and needed the land swap to get the job done right. So its not Jay's fault that it is dated. But there is a difference between classic styling and charm (Stowe, MRG, Smuggs, Burke mid-mountain, Black (NH), etc) versus dumpy, too small, cold and damp, not enough seats, etc.
