SNOWSHOE, west Virginia -- Mother Nature continues to drop gifts on Snowshoe Mountain, as snow is once again falling this morning at the region's largest winter destination. Eight inches of fresh powder fell on the resort Sunday afternoon into Monday, and already this morning the ground is coated in big white flakes. With Christmas now less than a week away, conditions should be some of the best in recent memory for the holiday period.

This week Snowshoe is open with 29 slopes, and that number is expected to increase this weekend, as at least four new trails are set to make their season debut. The return of cold temperatures in the last week have allowed our snowmaking crews to work around the clock, improving conditions and allowing our open terrain to expand. Included in that new terrain for this weekend is Sawmill, one of Snowshoe's three new trails being introduced this year. The classic Widowmaker slope, a favorite of Snowshoe regulars, is also expected to open for the weekend, and that means expert skiers spending the holiday on the mountain will have some challenging terrain to tackle. Already today, Snowshoe has added a new slope, as Cubb Run in the Silver Creek area opened for the first time this season. Silver Creek has been opened since last Friday, with snowmaking occurring almost continuously since that time. Night skiing and riding, as well as the tubing hill, are also open at Silver Creek. Additional adventure activities are also underway, and a snowmobile or snowcat tour is a great way to spend an afternoon, and see a whole new side of Snowshoe.

With the addition of the natural snow, as well as the hard work by our snowmaking crews, the base across most of Snowshoe's open terrain is back to two feet or more. Sunshine during the day yesterday, following Monday's big dumping of powder, made for some of the best conditions so far this year, and the forecast for the next week shows those conditions should only get better. Snow totals today could measure half an inch, and sunshine tomorrow will make for a great start to the holiday weekend. More snow is possible Monday, Christmas Eve, and Tuesday looks to be the perfect gift of a day, as Christmas Day is forecasted to be sunny with a high of 25 degrees.

The amazing conditions are sure to bring holiday cheer to even the biggest Grinch, and the best news is that there is still "room at inn", as availability still exists for both Christmas and New Years. But to take advantage, you want to act now, as the recent snowfall and cold temperatures have caused the phones to ring off the hook in the call center. Great deals are still available, so be sure to check out snowshoemtn.com or call 1-877-441-4FUN today.
