So, you're saying that it bothered you when Mayor Bloomberg asked NYC residents to conserve energy while there was a bank of 6 TV's on in the background all tuned to the same channel?

EXACTLY...and id be willing to bet dollars to donuts that his house was WAY cooler than the proposed 78 degrees....and I'd also venture to say its not his neighborhood that goes dark in the event they need power elsewhere...

What it NOT normal is the extremely high overnight minimums and alot of that has to do with the urban heat island effect that is caused by concrete, asphalt and buildings absorbing the heat from the sun and not releasing it at night to allow the big cities to cool down.

Air conditioning also makes matters worse by releasing even more heat into the night air while their compressors are working. It's a vicious cycle that is hard to improve upon.

As for utility bills, we got ours yesterday for the month of July and it was a nice low $635.00:angry:

Is that from Con Ed or LILCO? Either way, what a bunch of thieves.

NYSEG is my utility...I had my central A/C cranked most of July and I just paid my bill for $86.00.

im on a budget with JCP&L...seems high and was just readjusted, but its $185/monthly.

I save on the natural gas though..that budget is only $40/monthly and that covers heat (not necesary now) and hot water, as well as cooking.

Yesterday was great. It only hit 90 here in the Worcester hills and then the storms hit and the temps never went above 65 from about 5 till 8 when they finally broke 70 again. Right now, it's 83. Tuesday was the worst day.

Actually our power company is LIPA which took over from LILCO to "save" us money, ha ha ha.

Our utility rates are ridiculous, I can live in the dark in my house and still have at least a $300 a month bill.

Our new house will not have central A/C, both to save on money and help the enviornment. We will have window A/C units and use them as needed, instead of cooling the whole house at once.

I need my central A/C...we make up for it in winter by keeping the heat no higher than 60.

We're in new construction with central air and our electric bill has never been higher than around $250. The AC unit is so small - about 3'x4'x2' - and it cools the whole house down very well. It must be a combination of an efficient unit and a well-built, tight home...

Im beginning to feel it in my allergies. I have determined after years of suffering and taking meds to combat the "nasal drip" I experience that it is ALWAYS related to the passing of a weather front. tomorrow I wont cough or have any nasal drip at all..the past 2 days I have not had issues either. It only seems its with a front moving not stationary.

Just thought id share.... :D

They're alloys, a combo of titanium and stainless steel. I usually don't set metal detectors off unless they are set to be very sensitive. I carry a card from my surgeon explaining it.

Never damaged my neck or head, although there are many who would question that.

All my metal is in my legs.

The story I tell about the plate and 4 screws in my thumb doesn't seem as cool anymore. I do get the same questions about metal detectors. It has never happened to me.
