I just came inside of our wharehouse here at work from loading up our cargo van with the steel shelving and woodwork that we need for our shelves as we move the company to Connecticut. I tell you, after 1/2 hour in the sun, I am a puddle of sweat and as I write this I am shirtless because my shirt is like a wet sponge, yuck.

We had a high of 99F at my house yesterday and expect the same today. The water in my pool is 88F, not exactly very refreshing:x At least we are on the way back down with day length and average temperatures.

103 here at work in Armonk and the humidity is worse than yesterday.

It is actually painful to walk outside. This is insane.

We were hovering in mid 90s in the MRV until a nice storm just rolled thru here about a half hour ago. It dropped 10 degrees and it cooled down nicely (cool is relative, of course... I never thought I would call 85 cool!) I hope we are done here for heat for now. Hang in there, downcountry posters- we're pulling for you.

The heat does not bother me all that much, but the humdity is the killer. 108F in Las Vegas and 116F in Death Valley in June was a cakewalk compared to the 98F here with the extreme humidity.

Reading this article makes me feel cooler:

S. Africans shiver through harsh winter

JOHANNESBURG, South Africa - Snow. Floods. Icy winds. Maybe even a tornado. South Africans are facing one of their harshest winters in years, with at least four deaths blamed on flooding from heavy rain that has caused travel delays in the south and west of the country.

While north of the equator, much of the United States sweats through a heat wave, Johannesburg saw flurries Wednesday for the first time in at least eight years, the national weather service said. Stunned office workers pressed against windows to savor the spectacle.
Freezing temperatures are not unusual at higher altitudes during the winter, but heavy snow has fallen in some interior towns that rarely experience such weather. More snow and gale force winds were expected Thursday in some areas, Weather SA said.
Torrential rains have caused flooding along the southern coast, including the town of George in the Western Cape province, where a rain-swollen river swept a car from a bridge. Police recovered two men and two children who had been inside the vehicle, but rescuers were looking for a fifth person believed to have been in the car.
Homes were flooded, sending scores of families to seek shelter at a community center and school, local authorities said.
Heavy snow, rain and falling rocks closed mountain roads in parts of the interior, including a border post with Lesotho, according to local news reports.
The George airport was closed Tuesday, disrupting 24 flights before it reopened Wednesday morning, airport officials said. Passenger trains in the Western Cape were running up to 14 hours late, the Spoornet rail company said.
Meteorologists were investigating whether a severe storm that swept through the northern town of Dullstroom on Tuesday night was a tornado. At least six people were injured in the heavy winds and rain, which also ripped roofs off homes, police said.

Man, I've been trying to help the mercury get up to triple digits this afternoon, but honestly, here about 10 miles east of Worcester, MA the hottest I saw was maybe 97* or 98*. It only feels like 125*F......;)

Question - on Channel 5, they reported that someone in Plymouth called in a temp of 109*F - that's impossible. Unless they're taking the reading in the sun, there's no way it was 12* hotter there than where I live (50 mi away). Plus, they're on the coast. Aren't true temperature readings supposed to be taken in the shade? My thermometer is deep in the shade, under my porch roof next to my house.

The family and I are going out for sushi cuz it's too damned hot to cook over the grill tonite. MMmmmm - Angry Tiger and Rock 'n Roll maki........

Stay cool.....

Saratoga Race Track was closed today because of the heat. They where worried about the health of the horses. It's the first time they have ever done that since horse racing started there in 1863. I applaud the decission because it cost NYRA alot of $ in handle to do the right thing, so you know it's hot out for them to do that.

Gonna be a lot more comfortable sleeping tonite.......

Got up to 103 today, heat index was probably slightly above 110. It's still 91 degrees at 9:20 with a heat index of 98. :(

Loaf there is no sea breeze with this heat wave. The ocean and bays are calm. I hit 100 today.

We had a good breeze here this afternoon, and we never got higher than 98F, since we have been living here, it has never hit 100F yet, not even in 2001, we also had a good deal of clouds this afternoon that kept the temps down a bit.

Last night was brutal. My lax game was at 7PM. We had no subs on defense and I didn't step off the field for a 60 minute game. I drank about 4 liters of water and a 32 oz. Gatorade before the game and my #1 this morning was a lovely bright orange. I hate losing, but going down last night means no game tonight. Now that lax is over for this year its time to focus on training for the ski season!!!!!

Well at least the high temperatures for yesterday stayed below the forecast for NYC which was forcast to reach 105F, but only made it to 97F.

The only official 100F reading I could find so far was in Hartford, which made 100F even.

With the cold front approaching, I would not be suprised to see even hotter weather today.

Good for them! Saratoga is a class act.

Animals suffer in this kind of heat too.

What is even worse than the hot daytime temperatures are the incredibly high overnight low temperatures for this morning:

  • New York City - LaGuardia AP, NY - 87 degrees
  • Baltimore, MD - Inner Harbor - 84 degrees
  • Atlantic City, NJ Airport - 82 degrees
  • New York City - Central Park, NY - 82 degrees
  • Newark, NJ - 82 degrees
  • Philadelphia, PA - 81 degrees
  • Washington, DC - National Airport - 81 degrees
  • Norfolk, VA - 81 degrees
  • Boston, MA - 78 degrees
Some of these low temperatures are the normal HIGH temperatures for this time of the year. High overnight minimums, are a hallmark of global warming.

We got through this EVERY YEAR. Theres always one HOT 3-5 day period somewhere betweek July and August. Its nothing new....not to me anyway...

What irks me the most is that we're asked to conserve energy. We pay a great deal to the electric companies, and the fat cats sitting in the big offices aren't taking pay cuts that I can see, but are still neglecting infastructure. CON EDISON admits that in the last 10 years they have seen the increase in demand, due to 10 televisions, 3 computers, washers/dryers, AC units, and the like in everyones house, but rather than fix the aging infastructure the neglect it til it casues issues like experienced in Queens, which are COMPLETELY unacceptable. Do you think that those people in queens wont recieve a bill for Julys services? Oh they SURELY WILL...and for what?? shoddy service and possibility of Con Ed shutting them off due to other power issues elsehwere? why do they get to choose who has power? I pay just like everyone else right?

Fix the aging infastructure and we wont have to hear about the power issues YEAR AFTER YEAR...but NOOOOOO that would cost them money..they rather pocket that...

Sorry for the rant...its just been really bothering me lately.

Thanks for reading.. :D

So, you're saying that it bothered you when Mayor Bloomberg asked NYC residents to conserve energy while there was a bank of 6 TV's on in the background all tuned to the same channel?
