Not sure how snow King can stay afloat, regardless of what they do. What is the draw to skiing at such a small ski area with much bigger and gnarlier Jackson Hole nearby?

It's a locals place. It's also RIGHT in downtown Jackson. Very similar to Cranmore.

Locals never bring a ski area in the black. Maybe close to it, but never a substantial profit.

Generally speaking, locals bring their own lunch, don't stay at onsite lodging, and don't bring any addition revenue, actually some take it away by skiing so many days on a season pass. Only place I see them bringing revenue is the bar

Exactly. Which is why Snow King is still struggling.

Every time I've stayed at Jackson to ski JH, everyone in my party says we should take a day and ski Snow King, but we never do, since we're there to ski JH, and JH is so big you can ski there everyday and not get bored, plus the weeks ski pass for JH is usually paid for up front before we arive.

But, Snow King, as small as it is compared to JH, looks like it has some nice steep terrain, especially off trail down the face, lookers right.

Darn straight. I need to get up there and ski both. There are some other little places (relatively speaking) in Wyoming and Idaho I've got to try. But it is so hard to justify the drive when I have Alta-Snowbird 30 minutes from my home.

I've been to JH multiple times, but never made it to Snow King. As others said, it's just too easy to stay on the mountain. Only went to Grand Targhee once in what must be easily over 20 total days. For a "local" mountain, it does look really steep. Of course, what does "local" really mean in JH? You're either mega rich and living in a second home occasionally or you're trying to live the outdoors life and you're living in a crappy shack with multiple others.

It's on my list that I'll never make. Another interesting looking place in WY is Sleeping Giant. If you drive from Yellowstone to Cody, the road descends from mountain to desert, flanked by mountains on left and right (absolutely stunning if you get the chance). Sleeping Giant is a little place on the side.

Do it!!! You won't regret it.

As for Snow King, if you get a nice early flight you can ski it the day you arrive. Worked well for me, scored some nice powder runs with good steepness.
