I'd be interested in hearing from any intrepids who make it to Jay today. I am thinking about buzzing up there on Saturday. They got about 4" according to reports. Give it 24 hours for the water to drain and the cats to crunch it up, it might be OK. Concerned about the weekend crowd from CA. Thoughts

I am not anticipating good conditions this weekend (which is why I am home posting right now instead of skiing despite 4" of new snow). Take a look at the snow report on the official site today and read between the lines. Any time Jay gets 4" of new snow but is honestly enough to say "variable" and firm/icy or something like that is not a good sign. If they get more snow to soften it up then it should be good. If not there are much better options that have better groomed runs and can more quickly recover from a NCP/freeze event. Though I will probably head up Saturday to do some skiing myself, I am not expecting much and only have a two hour one way drive on a season pass. Just my two cents.

People hiking for turns at Stowe yesterday were reporting a big ugly breakable crust on top of the snow about 1/2 way up the mountain. That's on Chinclip - a trail that doesn't get much wind. Doesn't bode well for Jay Peak. You'll probably be skiing on a boilerplate icy surface covered with a little powder and lots of chopped up ice balls. If you get first chair. However, I may be wrong, and if so I apologise for the negativity. Let me know if it's good. I'm going running today. Happy Thanksgiving!

Well, I'm itching to get to the mountains this weekend; I'm tiring of raking leaves. Any sliding around and down would be good with me. My fear is that those with the best grooming will have the most skier which equals Interstate 95 on skis :(
I'm getting a bit too old for hiking up, so lift-served will be my entree. How about someplace like Bretton Woods or Okemo?

Looks like Jay has picked up an extra 5 inches today by noon. However, it could be blowing all over the place, especially since the base is currently very frozen. If these snow showers keep up there could be 10 inches by morning.
