Jay was downright sick all weekend.

Pulled in Tramside at 12:30 on Friday. As we booted up in the lot it started snowing lightly. Took the Freezer up and hit Andre's Paradise, which was skiing fantastically, but I must say was a bit hairy, and we shoulda taken a warm up run first. Then over to Stateside and jumped on the Jet. Conditions looked sweet as they had got hit pretty good the day before. We hit Timbuktu and the Dip, which were both full of blower pow on soft bumps. Took a ride up the Bonnie and headed back tramside. Jumped in a few unmarked glades which were sweet, before deciding to hit a hairy chute that led out onto Northwest passage, which was closed and all rocked up, we found some decent turns on it though. We finished the day getting some low angle pow in the trees near nw passage and had a few beers before heading out.

Saturday was disgustingly cold as my girlfriend so eloquently put it, but it had snowed 2 inches or so overnight. We headed stateside immediately and went up the Bonnie chair. Skied down the first bit of Can-Am before jumping into the first chute that Deliverance had to offer. Real scraped off and hairy in there, but it ended up opening up into some sweet bumped up glades. There was fresh, but you had to take some hairy lines to get it. I actually caught a tree at a decent clip at one point, bruising my knee up a bit. Then it was in to the stateside lodge for some poutine, chick tortilla soup, handwarmers and coffee to burn off the hangover we had both acquired at the Belfry the previous evening. After feeling a bit better we headed out and did a few laps on the Bonnie, jumping in and out of unmarked glades on the way to tramside. At this point my girl was freezing so we called it and headed out for some food and drink at the JVI before dinner at Paddington’s, where we were staying.

After overeating by epic quantities I awoke promptly at 5:30 to sit and wait until 7 in front of the fire while reading some news and checking snow reports and weather. Nothing overnight, nothing forecast. We ate breakfast and headed up to Jay. As soon as we pulled in the lot at 8:30 it started snowing lightly again. After picking up our skis from the tune shop we hopped on the Tram, which was walk on, it was dead all morning actually. We started down Vermonter before heading into Valhalla, which was basically untracked. We then rode the Jet and decided to hit the Dip again. It was soft and bumped up at first but soon became deep, smooth and soft. Sweet second run of the day. We then headed back up the Bonnie and skied the treed area between UN and the Jet, getting freshies the entire way down. At one point I clipped a tree at a very high rate of speed, losing a ski, but recovered fairly quickly thank god. A little shaken at this point we decided to grab some coffee and a toe warmer to help ease my case of shin-bang a bit. After getting over my jitters a bit, we headed back up the Bonnie and over to Tramside where we found some really nice low angle untracked in the trees. It was still coming down too! After a few laps getting freshies, we headed to the IR for lunch and a few beers. NO ONE was in there, Jay was dead today! As we ate it continued to dump harder and harder, love that friggin Jay cloud! Post lunch we hit some more low angle stuff in the lower mountain trees and a little park bullshit before heading back over to Stateside and up the Bonnie where we hit Deliverance to Show off glade which were both sweet, with loose snow, and untracked in areas. We headed back up the Bonnie to get back to Tramside, both exhausted at this point. We closed the day by hitting an undisclosed location near Staircase. It was extremely rocky and ledgy at first, but with huge pockets of deep pow, it was downright gnarly actually, but after a succession of carefully planned and executed jump turns the trees opened a bit and it was untracked knee deep blower pow all the way out. We closed the weekend out with a couple drinks at the JVI before gassing up and heading home.

All in all great trip. My girl had never been to Jay, and to be honest, I think she fell in love with the whole area. Got a few pics and some bad video I'll try and post later. It was really too cold and the snow was to good to be messing with a camera.

Glad you had a great weekend! As mentionned, the conditions were superb this weekend... Not as much loose powder as last week but the snow is so soft all over the mountain... add up the 12-14in they got and you've got perfect conditions! Bumps were so soft.... Jumping from a mogul to another and destroying it while laying down a huge carving turn... Bump bliss!

Saturday was brutally cold... We played in the backcountry the whole day... but the mountain was brutal according to those who went... windy... our area wasn't windy... Snow was deep!

Sunday was perfect... Cold enough to keep the crowds away... Snowy... Fun Fun Fun! We had to stop at 2PM... but we wanted to keep riding! Ah well!

A really splendid weekend at the mountain!

Was there on Saturday. OUCH! Riding the Jet SUCKED. Was surprised to find the Bonnie was much nicer of a ride with barely any wind even cresting the ridge. Just wasn't feeling it on Saturday though... partially due to the cold, partially due to sleep deprivation, and partially due to the mid-week snow being completely tracked the hell out everywhere. Had brought BC gear in anticipation of needing to get my powder fix the hard way but bagged it early due to feeling tired and not on my game. Overall, I must agree that conditions are nice with packed powder everywhere and not much thin cover. I just haven't hit Jay very good this year... still awaiting a big one up there and I would like to see a Jay day in my top three for the year soon. Which isn't to say the conditions are anything less than excellent right now. But rather to say Jay isn't getting hammered with big powder days as much as the past three seasons.
