Decided to go up for a few hours and check out the damage from the temps and rain. I can not believe that people were skiing thigh deep snow less than a week ago. The snow loss is crazy. The coral area around the Red/Bonneventure chair was dirt, there was a small snow area that got you to the lift. Looking up at can am, etc.. was pretty dismal. Ok, Steve W, if you read this, can you please have the website updated when you guys aren't going to open a lift. Website says 8/8 lifts open. I stuck to the Jet and the Bonne, the flyer and the tram were not even spinning. Took about 8 or so runs. The top layer of snow softened up, but still very firm and fast. It is raining again now. I bet that there is going to be a major trail elimination as of tomorrow. It was 56 when I got back to my car at the Jet Service road at noon. It is just too bad what has happened with the weather. I rode up with twice with people who were at Jay for the 1st time ever. I told them to come back Mid-March, it is a different place. Jay really needs to start blwoing snow as soon as temps allow, particularly in the traffic areas and lift areas. I am up here for about 10 days, was hoping to ski all 10, lucky to get in the two, 2-3 hour sessions have had so far. The woods won't be back again for a while. Skied down Timbuktu Friday morning, pretty thin. Hopefully the weather turns for the better as the week progresses. I am damn glad that I am not spending thousands of dollars on a ski vacation like others do this week.

Thanks for the report. FWIW... the Jay web site today did mention the Flyer and Freezer being off line, IIRC.

Timbuktu was sucking hard the Saturday before the storm. Sucking as in... "is it really worth going that way again?" was a question I seriously had to keep asking myself. I would still put things as better than average for December with a temporary set back (unfortunately during the most profitable time of the month). Good news for you ccskier is that you'll end your stay up there with some really good conditions. Can't wait for the new year... help is on the way!

Huh, last I checked the Jay Site it said 8/8. Just checked again and it was back to 6/d, oh well, lifts won't matter. The whole place is going to be the consistency of a golf ball after tonight. I guess I will have to go out and visit friends for the next few days. I really hope that they blow snow in the stateside lift area, I bet that a lot of people will pull into the lot, see that and take off. It really is too bad, I felt bad for the people I rode with on the chair that had never been there.

I will say that I am usually pretty critical of my home mountain, but I do have to say there is a different vibe up there this year. I was booting up in the stateside lot Friday and was very impressed by the way the lot guys were interacting with the skiers, giving snow tips, etc... Two thumps up, in the past they have been punkish, smoking butts and just pointing fingers. Looks like a new crew of lifties also, they were personable and helpful also. I will say that they need to bring the singles line at the Jet back to the lift side of the corral instead of the utility lot side. That kinda messed me up a bit. I am glad that it is only December and things have been worse in the past.

It has nothing to do with being a snow snob, just stating the facts. I just don't find it all that fun going up and down the same few trails over and over.

OK..I pretty much lap the same few runs over and over at Blue...anyway at least you're not at work..and you might get some fresh Poe midweek or this weekend..
