Probably not much off the mtn I'd expect.
A group of (4-6) are looking to head to Jay for the 1st time the last wknd in March.
We want to do this fairly cheaply...say $40 for lodging per person per night.
Cheking out the Super 8 in Newport....something on this level. Have heard bad things about Hotel Jay.

Any other options for us? If we could be walking distance to a bar (s) at night, that would be ideal.
On or off mountain is fine.

Thanks.

Whats wrong with Hotel Jay? I just came from a week there... it's certainly not the Ritz, but it does the job. Maybe its an acquired taste....can't beat if for convenience though, and the food is absolutely killer.

Done the stupor8 route; Newport doesn't offer all that much, & it can be a long drive to the mtn in bad weather. Unfortunately, there are not a lot of options in the area. Good luck!

Check out the on slode townhomes this time of the year. You can get some really good deals and you are right on the lift line. I went last year with another couple. two days skiing two nights on hill townhome was something like 166 per person. Pretty good deal and a great accomidations.

Not exactly in the neighborhood but the Comfort Inn in St. Johnsbury has a Jay Peak package for 2 adults at $189 which includes a night's stay, 2 lift tickets and breakfast. That breaks down to about $95/person. If you deduct the cost of a lift ticket ($62), that's $33/person for lodging. I stayed at this hotel recently when I skied Burke and Jay and it's pretty good. It also has a pool and hot tub if that matters. Only drawback is that you're about 45 mins. to an hour away from Jay so if slopeside is an issue then look elsewhere. Check out www.jaypeakvermont.org also for lodging info in the Jay Peak area.

thanks everyone. These are all good ideas.....we prefer to be closer to Jay but I had considered St Johnsbury.
We have 2 for 1 vouchers as well so wiant to go just for the lodging. I did also discover that website that snowmonster mentioned but since our group is fairly small, it seems that renting a house/condo is cost prohibitive.
When I went on Jay;s website to look for condos everything was coming up at like $600 for 2 ppl ski and stay on mountain!!!! I wonder if they have lodging only deals for those who dont want to buy tickets. Sometimes places have late season lodging only deals for around $100 on mountain.
