And we believe that they actually had 400?
Come on.
300 I could maybe stomach. 400. Sorry- not buying it.
They just take whatever they get at the base and double it for the summit snow total. Add up all those doubled figures and you get 400. It's a bs number.

Pretty much, yes. I believe the top of the mountain received about 400". I haven't been there this year so it isn't a first-hand report, but historically they do receive more snow, and if you look at totals from other areas like Stowe and SB it seems to be within the realm of possibility.

Not getting bent outta shape at all, just beside myself folks are quibbling about a few inches. Jay does usually add an inch or two, so like I said, maybe it is 380 instead of 400. Big whoppie. Actually, they didn't count the October three foot dump, so not counting ski season, they are beyond 400 already easily, but with the two storms this week, there should be very little doubt at all.

I think a lot of you are missng an improtant fact, the snow totals are accounting for everything that came out of the sky, not what is now base, 400 inches fell on the mountain, but 200 of that has likely melted out between the start and finish

I still can't figure out why people give a rats ass about mountain snow reports - does it really matter that much, the only report worth hearing is the one about rain and a hard freeze, I could see not wanting to drive for that, but come on, bitching about 4 inches here and there is missing the point in my mind

sorry to sound a bit pissy too, but i have heard it more than once this year on the tram, days skiing knee/thigh deep at jay and some numb nuts moaning to his buddy about how the totals are way overblown

would like to point out that comparing Jay's snow fall total with places out west is kinda iffy. Places out west do not get the rain/freeze/thaw cycle. For example, the last two weeks in March. Can only imagine what base depths would be like now if not for those two weeks! So western areas can be better with lower snowfall totals due to consistency. This year has been amazingly consistent though once things got going, last two weeks of March excluded.

A very true statement so i will throw some other totals out there:

Stowe - 374"
SB - 293"
Kmart - 287"
Sunday River 180"
Sugarloaf - 170"
Cannon - 166"
Wildcat - 122" to 174"
Sunapee - 79" tto 110"

Other helpful totals:

Mt. Mansfield Stake - 94"
Jay Peak - 409"

I agree. Local meterologists question their measurement techniques. Do they get a lot of snow? Absolutely.

I say all the time that Jay just lies about there totals. I have to tell you though every time I am there it seems to snow. I judge the amount of snow and when i go home and look at there report the next day they are close to what I saw I think they get the snow I just dont know where the heck it goes. On the flip side. I live in LP and I know darn well what the mountain is getting and they never seem to post the correct number. Its LOW.
All is All it really does not matter I cant ever remember having a bad ski day.

While NNE has reveived a lot of snow in the last 3 months, SNE got rain for 90% of every storm. Boston had a near record low snowfall this winter, and if it hadn't been for the 8 inch wet snow/sleet storm on St. Patty's day, there would have been a record. I think the season total at Blue Hills was 21". It was another poor year for the local areas.

Jay has a lot of wind which blows it into the woods, and then also the snow just naturally compacts itself. Through in the freeze-thaw cycles of the northeast as well. It seems from your own experience that their snow totals are close to accurate.

I'm not saying their reporting is always accurate either....But with us at 350, I wouldn't doubt it.

I actually have a harder time believing the Stowe 354 number than Jay. Come on due, get real. Stowe did not rip 354 inches of snow this year. You are really trying to say that your resort has received 29.5 feet of snow this season? Good water, keep drinkin' it!

Stake is at 90" now. A day ago it was at 96". 354" is believable.

With the lake effect, Stowe for me is the most believable number on the list.
