the pitch just beyond the roped off area looks gnarly as fuck. jagged rocks everywhere.

one time i went into the tiny chute you see where the trail takes the turn to the right but before you cross the rope off. hello bad decision!

Does Northwest Passage ever open all the way down? I've literally never seen it open past North Glade - the aspect is perfectly awful for the prevailing NW winds and regularly gets scraped clean. They should just let it grow in and take it off the trail map.

I try to hit Jay twice a year and middle part of Northwest Passage has only been open once, March 13, 2019 and even then it was quite rocky. Speaking of rarely open trails … Sis Boom Bah has NEVER been open when I was at Jay.

The winner of the "barely open trails" award in the east goes to The Slides at Whiteface. It's like the caddy's pool hours in Caddyshack.

And you have to have avy gear, because people skiing the east commonly have that on them.

I don't understand skiing the chutes at the top. 2oo' at the most. Take the bottom off your skis and scrub...

The fact you need Avy gear to access the slides should tell folks this isn't your typical East Coast terrain.

I feel like the Slides were open a surprising amount this year...even some gold rated days with no avy gear required which I rarely recall seeing in the past (although also could just be some weird social media algorithms promoting those posts more in my feeds)

You should know by now that he is in his own conversation even when replying to another post
Part of being the skier is choosing lines. I am on it. I can ski with anyone butt the current pros. They're not on here. I have the ski- off record to prove it.

It's fun. I don't ski to have fun; I ski to get off.

50, sunny, perfect corn. Oh and the woods are still extremely well covered.

A+ day.
Awesome! Driving up tomorrow to ski Wednesday and Thursday. Expecting Wednesday to be dust on crust but Thursday should be one last pow day in a season that's been filled with them.

You won't have much to worry about on anything that faces north. Timbuktu, Kitz, BPG, etc still very deep. Canyonland good too although you need to watch out for open water. Deliverance and Vertigo have a couple sketchy areas but largely still very good. Skied Tux and Green Beret up top and those were both great too. Some sketchy areas particularly where the sun meets the Bonaventure ridge where it faces southeast, and lots of brown spots developing down low. But I can't believe how much natural base there still is on April 14th considering March was pretty lousy.

Stowe tomorrow till the rain chases me away. Brought a change of clothes so I won't mind a few hours in the elements especially if it's soft.

Heading up tomorrow as well, stoked to end the season on a high note. Been coming up to Jay this same week for the last 4 years and each year the snow keeps getting better, stark contrast to the first year.

Also made the 5 hour drive up. Excellent day. In truth, I'll take almost anything on Apr 17 but there was maybe 5-6 inches and generally skied very well. JFK was my ROTD.
