Resort or Ski Area: Jiminy Peak

Conditions: Packed Powder/Spring

Trip Report:

With a nasty cold and a couple of free vouchers my buddy and I drove the 25 minutes or so over to Jiminy for a few runs this afternoon.

Got there around 10 and after a short wait on the 6-Pack we made our way up. Weather was beautiful early, plenty of sun and in the high 30's. First run was Wild Turkey (a favorite of mine) down to the White Quad. It was great....

Skied all the trails on the White's Peak + Cutter (no bumps) then moved over to the Q1 Quad and skied all of the boulevard's on the front. They were all decent. Then took a run on Upper Ex (groomed, wtf?).

After lunch as the crowds grew we moved over to the Triple chair and the Grand Slam chair. Upper Liftline still has some good snow. Can you believe it was groomed as well? North Glade was good. Foxes were good (at least there were some bumps on skier's right, albeit no line). Riptide great. Grand Slam great. Mogul Thing half groomed half small bumps, ugh. John Hancock groomed, huh?

Anyway, they have a great base and should last quite a while into the spring. I was very dissapointed to say the least with the lack of bumps and trails left to nature, which reminds me why I don't ski here much even though I live down the road.

I noticed that Jiminy has become all groomers this season too. Lame...

Yeah, I mean, Cutter is even listed on the map as moguled... and skier's right on Grand Slam used to be nice flat bumps. Now that area is roped off for a terrain park - that doesn't exist there this year. 'The Mogul Thing' is a 200 foot trail half groomed and half bumped... sucks.

But, never in my wildest dreams did i think I would ever seen Upper Ex or Liftline groomed..

Well, Cutter still shows up as a bump run on the online trail maps so I'm surprised there are no bumps there. There is no reason that shouldn't be bumped by this point in the season. And grooming Liftline is just silly. Jiminy has so much good terrain that could be dedicated to bumps without detracting from the desires of the groomer-only crowd.
