Resort:Jiminy Peak
Date Skied: 3/19/06 - 11:30am to 3:45pm
Conditions: cloudy, windy summit, about 25 degrees
Trip Report:
After an awesome breakfast at the Moonlight Diner in Williamstown, MA, it was off to Jiminy Peak for the $30 E-coupon day. The place looked pack, the complete opposite of Pico. I still found a place in the main lot to park. We missed the shuttle, so we had to walk booted up the lodge.
The trick to skiing at Jiminy when the 6 pack has a line, is to use the singles line. Each time I was still with one of my friends riding up. I have to give Jiminy Peak accolades for having a person working in the lift line getting everybody into the groups of 6. It made the long looking line about a 3 minute wait. The first run down was Whirlaway, where I almost got whirled away by the wind. It was just a hard pack steep run. No bumps.
After that I made my way to find the "Mogul Thing". That was the only run with bumps on it. Getting there was a blast. It was really a blast of granular snow being picked up and blown by the gusts of wind on the West Way trail.
After a couple of runs one down Fox and the other North Glade, I was back to doing the trails off of the Left Bank.
I did Whitetail and Jericho. The same conditions as Whirlaway. The Widows Peak quad was open so I did the Noreaster and Panorama trail. After one more run down Mogul Thing it was off to dinner at Arizona Pizza.
Overall the conditions at Jiminy and Pico were similar. I enjoyed Jiminy Peak better because there was more challenging terrain open. I posted some pictures below:
Skiing down Whirlaway:
The Mogul Thing sign:
The trail for above sign. There are some nice bumps, the camera just did not capture them:
Looking up Whitetail:
Jericho. It is steeper than this picture!
