Area skied: Jiminy Peak, M.A
Date skied: March 25th, 2007 from 12:00pm - 4:15pm
Surface conditions: Spring snow, slush, limited new snow (1")
Today was day 30 of my season and Warren and I skied 100% for free by filling out the online survey for season passholders from another ski area. Seeing that we only had 1" of new snow this moring and not the 2-4" that was expected, we played lazy and did not get going until 10:00am.
I was suprised to only find about 1" of new snow at Jiminy Peak, mainly from about halfway up the mountain, especially when the NWS was calling for 4-7" last night. The base area was empty and the Berkshire Express was deserted with no liftline at any time during the day.
Our first run was down Westway/Grand Slam and it was heavy cut up slush with alot of thin areas above the intersection of North Glade. Jericho was next and it was decent except for the steepest parts, where turns revealed cat track ice underfoot.
Whitetail was great with lots of soft snow and a challenging zipperline of moguls under the chair on skiers left that where creamy soft. Upper and Lower Fox also had some moguls on skiers right, but again in a narrow strip with most of the trail groomed.
Cutter was challenging to ski as the moguls where spaced very far apart with alot of ice in between them. Left Bank below Cutter was a sea of cut up slush, thin spots and watery spots. Panorama and Scooter had nice soft groomed snow, but are short with very little vertical.
North Glade/Upper & Lower Slingshot where in nice shape with deep base depths and Riptide/Willie's Gulch was the run of the day with far less slushy snow than the rest of the trails on the mountain.
The mountain should make April 1st without too many problems, but 180 and Upper Westway are getting thin, as are the headwalls of Jericho, Whitetail and Whirlaway.
