Crazy. Heard about it on the radio. You know, on some days, when I'm feeling really, really good I think "yeah, I could be dragged to the top of Everest by a competent guide and a team of Sherpas with good weather" but I never think that of K2.

I'd imagine it's a natural progression. Someone conquers Washington, then they want to do Pikes, next Denali and so on...

Me? now freaking way

Anything more than the Rocky Mountain 14k mountains is too much for me. I hiked Mount Uncompadre in the San Juans back in 2000..and the air was so thin at the top..along with the risk of lightning..Denali and especially the Himalayas looks scary..

Its about acclimatizing... and some people are naturally better at it than others.
Some people faint or get headaches at 9K', others at 15K'... you just don't really know how you're gonna handle altitude until you try it.

I dig the bigger mountains, but it just takes more time and patience because of the need to acclimatize slowly.
