Date(s) Skied: 1/5-6/08

Resort or Ski Area: killington

Conditions: powder, pp, hero snow

saturday, 20's mostly cloudy with occasional teases of sun. mtn essentially 100% open. too many trails & not enough time. groomed trails like skye lark & bitter were in excellent shape but the main course was lower ovation. absolutely perfect mm snow. many laps here since this trail is rarely that good. middle o had great bumps & snow on the treeline. still able to find some snow in the somewhere/skye bits trees. upper dreammaker was surprisingly icey while upper needles & thimble had soft snow. vertigo headwall icey but from sunoco rd down excellent. lower v excellent staircases. fiddle on nat snow surprisingly good. rocks easily avoidable. bear trees sweet. upper wildfire had perfect mm snow which bumped beautifully by day's end. the light & dipper woods were excellent while the toilet bowl was pretty sketchy. roundabout as good as it gets. upper breakaway great but lower had more ice than we cared for. snowden trees excellent. closed out on a now bumped lower ovation.

sunday, maybe an or two of new snow. mid 30's very foggy. skied the 8-11 shift. absolute hero snow if you could see it. disappointed that they had mowed down the previous day's excellent bumps on upper wildfire. stop the brutal grooming! cream in the bear woods. upper needles soft bumps > lower vertigo a bit manlier but but still excellent bumps. couple laps on ovation. lower now had huge, well spaced bumps on perfect snow. closed out the morning with a couple laps in the snowden trees which ruled.

fabulous weekend. but really bummed that just when we get the mtn back into mint condition we're getting hit w/ an early january thaw. conditions should be great this week w/ soft snow & bumps abounding, but it won't pretty when the cold air returns. booyah!

My father-in-law was up there Saturday and said Lower Ovation was just in phenominal shape! Best he's seen it in years. Wish I could have been there. And with the new cut-over and the removal of that damn water slide it's so easy to lap now from the SuperStar chair without much effort! Nice report.

i may not want to hear the answer to this question but, skiadikt, how low down did the heavy fog go on sunday?

definitely was an issue. i'd say on average about halfway down. heavier & lower in supe, canyon & needles. higher in snowden & bear. that's why we waited a bit to hit ovation - lower was mostly clear but upper in the fog. visibility wasn't an issue in the snowden trees. we only skied to 11 and understand the fog lifted a bit in the afternoon.
