i know this belongs in trip reports but since no ones checking there yet, i figured it put this here ...
date: 10/29/06
area: killington
weather: a friggin blizzard
planned to hit stowe today. left rutland in pouring rain but as i started climbing the hill towards pico pass, found myself in a full-blown blizzard. road totally snow covered. they were plowing the access road. anyway didn't think it wise to drive to stowe in this weather so after some consultation with basin rick, headed to kbl to check it out. ran into a telemarker who was booting up. looked to be maybe 3-4" at the base. decided to go for it. hiking up it was almost boot top in spots. but it was real nasty. snow blowing sidways. wind nearly knocking me over at times. anyway reached my destination. saw 2 other guys heading up powerline and ran into my telemarker friend jim. did westglade>pipeline>great northern>highline>racers edge>mouse trap>bunny buster. not the most inspired run choice. i had intended to do laps on the upper runs but it was nasty and i was tired so i hightailed it out of dodge. upper westglade & pipeline had the best snow. generally wet & heavy, but probably more snow than the boys had last weekend. the telemarker did cascade>flume and thought it was great.
should be pretty good monday if it sets up a bit and a little more to top it off. definitely worthwhile and gives me month #3 in my ski 12 quest.
