Trip Report:
Made it back to k for the 1st time since early dec. Parked at Bear and couldnt believe the changes since last year. So much of wildfire/beartrap/bear claw/dreammaker etc was a complete terrain park. Took skye peak quad and headed over to needles eye area. Upper needles eye was nice soft bumps with windblown in between. nice little powder shots with every turn. Cut over to Vertigo below the headwall and that had set up on top with crosscut bumps and hardpack in between. After snowshed crossover, bumps were formed much better and lower third was cut beautifully by the k freestyle team. Nice lines and soft faces. Needles liftline was in very good shape too. Always a few stumps and rocks poking through but that's half the fun. Headed over to Peak area. Took skye lark or skye hawk, one of those. It was in good shape. Firm edgeable snow with soft piles here and there. Headed to Ovation. Top part was awesome, nice gs turns available and good edgeable snow once again. Steep bottom part was a skating rink in the middle but skiers left had collected alot of the blown snow. Too many people standing around though, and that trail is too steep to play human slalom on. Headed back to bear for lunch, took one of the terrain park trails back. Interesting, it was like a boardercross thing with berms and whoop de doos. Not my thing but still interesting. After lunch, it was amazing how much snow vertigo and needles liftline had picked up. Most of it mustve been windblown because it didnt seem to be snowing that hard, but spent the rest of the afternoon ripping the bumps on those two trails. The needles quad is relatively protected from the wind and the line on lower vert. was absolutely perfect. great day all in all. Wanted to make it to K peak and hit catwalk and big dipper but the wind was nasty and i'm gettin picky these days.
