Wow this thread is boring.

Cuz Killington sucks!

-Inflated vertical...........90% of the mountian 1400ft of vertical more like Sunday River.
-It is not the largest ski resort, Sugarloaf is.
-Trails are short and the terrain isn't that difficult, very overrated in the "great terrain" category.
-Inflated trail counts, way worse then most, hell they add a whole other resort to there counts.
-Snow, it's not that great. They get more then there fair share of mid season rain and sleet.
-It's ugly.

Other than that I love the place.

Hahahaha, of course the lines are not bad like most people say, they have fast lifts, which equals lots of turns, they do make a lot of snow, or they did. They also have the access road.

>If you put up a couple hundred trophy homes on 1 acre house lots, the whole basin is going to get clearcut. That's Jerseying Vermont and can't be allowed. Stowe was required to set aside much of their land as greenspace. I think the same condition should hold for Killington.....
________
In addition...wait and see what that does/would-do to the consistency of late-Winter/early-Spring temps halfway up the mountain.

not even a slight drop in the bucket

On the Devil's Fiddle situation:

Hiked over that way a bit. The good news: it's apparent that they've done some mowing on it. Pretty good harvest of hay. The bad news is that they've done nothing about accessing the snowmaking pipes. They're still pretty well buried in the underbrush at this point, and are, for all practical purposes, inaccessible. I hope they are just waiting until the leaves fall before doing the necessary cutting. Get 'er done!

So, they did the cutting needed to open it on natural snow, but not much in the way of actually accessing the snowmaking hydrants.....not that it makes all that much of a difference, I'm sure they could still get to them.

You are describing every ski area in the Northeast. Have you ever skied Europe? How about Whistler? Killington is what it is. Nobody makes you ski there.

My take:

They seem to get the picture a bit better than in the past, however the responses did strike me as often dodging giving much in specific answers that could actually be shown/proven to happen. I think they are still underestimating the damage ruining BMMC and such causes, however.

They've played it pretty close to the vest the last few years, really to their detriment. Better to keep your customers in the loop and worry a little less about what the competition finds out about your plans. If you keep marching forward, it won't matter anyway.

There is a bit of "Animal Farm" in their approach. They keep changing the rules, while insisting they haven't changed at all. They must think we are the sheep. None the less, they aren't going to change their corporate culture. It is what it is.

I did see some real positives in what Nyberg had to say. "We have discussed an upper lift that would bring people to K-1 top for download and have some ideas." A rather innocuous sentence that says a lot. My take: they are willing to make changes in order to be more competitive in the early season market. That's an about face from two years ago.

I was disappointed there was no questions regarding the future of BMMC. Their approach damaged it the first year, and obliterated it the second. An absolute colossal failure. The suspicion with which they are viewed will remain unless they find a way to restore the East's best party.

When i clicked on this I thought for sure I was going to be reading about how the lack of brush cutting around the snowmaking hydrants on the Fiddle indicated no expectation of snowmaking there this year.

And, C'mon, Rogman, you and all the other college age BMMC party types just go for the party, never ski, won't ever have kids that ski, and certainly will never buy a condo or season pass. I'm sure the loss of the BMMC, and the approach that precipitated it, won't hurt Killington at all.

(For those that don't know me or Rogman very well, please note the extreme sarcasm in that last statement)

Me college age! LOL! Anyone who knows me realizes it would not be entirely inaccurate to say that I came for the party and stayed for the skiing... BTW, MM, break a leg this weekend! or whatever it takes! Seriously, best of luck to you and L.

Oh, totally. And you know, speaking from personal experience, when I attended as a 13 year old a couple years ago, the whole: Good music, amazing skiers, and everyone having fun, didn't affect my perception of the place at all. It didn't set it apart from other, lesser ski areas at all, or give me something that stood out in my mind. *end sarcasm*

Actually, I'd say going to both that and Spring Loaded in the same year, I remember finding it really neat, and something I was really looking forward to the next couple years, and one of the reasons that K became the "place I wanted to go to". And hence, it's been where we've gone most often, and spent a lot of money at.
