Date(s) Skied: 12/25/2006-12/31/06
Resort or Ski Area: Killington
Conditions: Packed powder, frozen granular, boiler plate, fresh powder. It was a fun week
Trip Report: I've said before and I'll say it again. Considering the conditions, Killington has been doing an exceptional job with snow making and expanding terrain. Here's how our week went:
12/25/06 - Arrived at Killington at 1 PM. By this time the trails had been a bit skied off and slick. We only got in a few runs, 4000 feet total vertical, just to stretch the legs and warm up a bit. Snow guns were going all over the place. 49 trails open.
12/26/06 - Got first chair, Vee was a trooper all week. There was 3" of fresh snow, however, it had also been raining a bit and the rain froze into a layer of crusty ice on top of the fresh snow. Our first run was down Bunny Buster and it was a bit scary not being able to turn . Took a bit of getting used to. Within a couple of hours everything softend up real nice and it was a pleasure skiing on this snow. However, it also started raining so hard that visibility was almost 0. We did ski a bit more today but still quit early, got in 6000 vertical.
12/27/06 - Met up with BeanoNYC today, great day of skiing, conditions were nice, snow guns still going all over the place. We did quit by 12:30 due to crowds. Trail count up to 56, vertical skied: 12,000, 1 more inch of snow.
12/28/06 - Ran into a bunch of Zoners and had a blast skiing all over the mountain, conditions were good, guns still going, more snow being blown on Bear. Trail count up to 66, vertical skied: 13,000
12/30/06 - Best day of the season! There was 1.5 inches of fresh snow overnight and 6 inches of fresh pow throughout the day. I was concerned the crowds would be bad due to the fact this was a Saturday, no way, it was more crowded during the week. So, no crowds, fresh snow =
Not sure if that was the Missing link, or some Ski Dork 76 trails open, 19,000 vertical skied.
12/31/06 - Great sunny day, bluebird ski, nice conditions, but after the fresh pow, of the previous day, a bit of a let down. Overall still nice and had a great week. Killington has done a great job. By Sunday they were up to 84 trails. BeanoNYC, got his introduction to backcountry on Sunday. The scene on Sunday:
