Have these trails ever made it to February without opening before?

Is this the latest opening ever for Outer Limits? It only opened in the last couple of weeks yes?

Tough hand dealt by mother nature, but I can understand the frustration of K skiers seeing terrain that could be open, but isn't because the snow was made for the Dew Tour instead.

Outer Limits is half open.

There's a pretty long list of trails (besides these) that have not yet opened at all this season, on top of numerous others that have opened only briefly. It is truly remarkable.

True, but as far as I know, nearly all the "natural snow" trails have been open at least once this year, but almost none of the glades.

The issue at hand though, is that the 5 trails listed above are major snowmaking expert trails that don't look like they are going to see ANY snowmaking this year.

There is a serious lack of decent steeps at Killington this year, if you compare the steeps of what's seen snowmaking, with what hasn't, they actually have less than half of their expert snowmaking terrain open.

the two steepest runs at Mount Snow haven't, and may not see snowmaking at all this year either - Ripcord and Plummet. I think there are two others that haven't had snow made on them either (Illusions and Choke/Standard).

I can deal with the lack of snowmaking. There comes a point where you have spent X amount on snowmaking already, does it make sense to open up more trails to close them in in two months?

Closing Bear Mt Quad and especially North Ridge midweek is inexcusable.

Is that pure cost cutting on their part? It seems crazy to close the triple when you have limited terrain to begin with.

I can understand the Fiddle and Ovation, but it's embarassing that they didn't make snow on Dipper and Downdraft. And it's not like any of them really need much snow, aside from Dipper.

I'm not all that familiar with Killington, so I can't speak to these specific trails, but in general I'd like to see an artificial base on an expert trail, because whatever snow falls is then going to be to play in, rather than base building.

I think Hunter is a good example of this. They're able to get the most out of all 100-whatever inches of snow they get because there is a good base down and whatever natural that falls is gravy. It makes the mountain ski much better than the snowfall would dictate.

That is a good point. Double Dipper for sure... I can see them skipping Downdraft.

I was going to say that once they do dipper, downdraft doesn't take very much - the middle is smooth and only needs about 2-3 feet base, the lower steep is fairly short to where it meets dipper. Upper has had snow made on it but is not groomed so it's been closed lately.

Epic Fail.

The Dew tour really fucked them up.

Yeah, but there's 30 feet of base on lower Bear Claw. That will be awesome in April when they're running nothing but the Superstar quad and have employees stationed at the top of the lift to prevent people from poaching Bear.
