I remember I didn't ski Killington for a couple years from 1996 to 1998 or so (the first year of K-1). Before K1 you would unload the Peak chair and ski ahead about a 50 feet and there was a wide slope on your right that you actually could sidestep up to Catwalk. When I got off the K1 the first time I skied ahead and saw nothing but cliff and trees. Where did it go??? Then I realized it was on my right just as you get off the lift. The unloading terminal was placed further back due to its size than the PEak double and a lot of blasting had to occur, making the need for the stairs! lol

stairs have always been there and been necessary to access catwalk.

Ok, so I'm new around here and to the sport. I've figured out what a "gaper" is for awile now...but can someone tell me where the word came from?

its a reference to the space between someones goggles and helmet/hat. gaper gap. why, i have no idea. but as far as i know, thats where it came from.

A gaper is a skiier or snowboarder who is completely clueless. Usually distiungished by their bright colored clothes and a gaper gap, the gap between goggles and a helment/hat. Gapers also do the "Gaper Tuck" which is an attempt at being a ski racer by tucking, however, it is done incorrectly with the poles sticking straight up like thunderbolts and lighting, very very frightning! Gapers also sit at the bottom of jumps and try and go big off table tops in the park.

Hilarious thread:

2 seasons ago I saw an asian, boots off, white tube socks and all walking down Escapade. Now he was only about 20 yards down from the last crossing trail. My kids thought it was the funniest thing they ever saw. I did convince him to but his boots back on and walk up.

Reminds me of the guy I saw trying to get down Clairs when it was a frozen waterfall last year. They found him in the woods.

I can't understand why anyone would take off their skis (let alone their boots) and walk down a mountain!

And catwalk isn't that steep. I can't understand it.

But what I really find funny is the guy with the video camera. Instead of trying to help this guy he whips out his video recorder and tapes him. It kind of reminds me of the last episode of Seinfeld. It's a good thing Vermont doesnt have a good samaritan law!

That would be Spanky, basically the guy that setup Kzone. If you thought that was funny, you should see the video of him chasing down some poor sap for skiing too close to his wife. Not only did he chase him down the trail to the lift, but also follow him up the lift and continued giving him crap in the lift line.

I have seen it many times before. People feel more comfortable without their skis on, but in fact, they are in even more danger.

Yes... Amazing self restraint by the guy who he chased down for a really dumb thing..
If Spanky would've chased me down like that - I'd have been in his face... My whole opinion about that dude changed with that video... And the way some Kzoners thought he was cool for what he did changed the way I think about some on KChat too...

Just a lame move that he was proud of....
