Trip Report:

NHpowderpup and I were looking to ski this weekend but I know how freakin crazy it can get from past experiences. One experience in particular was standing in line at the Needles Eye chair and the line was soooo looong we were all doing the wave in the corral. You could litterally see it wind its way through the crowd. The wait was almost 1 hour.

I was also wondering how wind would affect lifts on some of the bigger mountains so I chose to mellow out at King Pine. What a great choice!

I love RT. 153 and decided to take the long way today. Anyone who has taken it knows how twisty and hilly it is. But the frost heaves,OMG! Make sure you have an empty bladder before you start the car!

We pulled into a pretty empty parking lot around 8:30 and got a spot right up front. Our first lift was around 9 and the snow was fast but still carvable. There was also almost no wind! We banged out run after run and had a ball. I worked on pole plants, upper body position and hand and arm placement with my boy and he was soaking it up like a sponge. I was so proud! We blasted home early afternoon. Conditions were still good and crowds were light with a 1-3 chair wait.

King Pine is one of those "little areas that rock". They dont have a big vertical or lots of acerage but they have a great product thats perfect for families.

My BF and I actually drove by King Pine on our way up to Sunday River the same day you were there (his mom has a condo on 153, so we take that instead of 16 up to N. Conway and beyond). We should have just stayed at KP! Sunday River only had 2 lifts open due to the wind, and it was bunny hills only. Not worth the $75 ticket price!

Next time, we'll just stay local.

You can say that again! Never skiing vacation weeks AGAIN! I suppose that's what I get for not having kids yet-- I can't remember when vacations are!

Of course, it doesn't help that it was a long weekend for most of the grown-ups, too! :dunce:
