Trip Report:
Heading home for the long weekend I stopped in the notch for a hike on my way. Parked at Lafayette Place and started hiking at 7:30. The trail is a very gentle grade the entire way and I made it to the hut in no time. The bridges approaching the hut were covered in frost and very slippery and I almost ended up in the brook. After a snack I headed up Fishin' Jimmy Trail. The trail had lots of wet roots and slimy rocks and it wasn't a very pleasant, but I didn't think it was a bad as I have heard. On the Kinsman Ridge Trail above about 4,000ft the trees and some rocks were covered in rime making for a couple interesting sections. I got to the summit of N. Kinsman at about 9:45 and took a long break on the ledge enjoying the sweet views and a couple sandwiches. I headed for S. Kinsman at 10:15 and made the peak about 10:45, had another sandwich and took off for the bottom at 11:00. On the way down Kinsman Ridge I was pelted with the rime falling of the trees as it melted. I descent down Fishin' Jimmy made me realize why people dislike the trail and it seemed like it took longer than it actually did to get down. I was glad to see the hut when I got there, but instead of stopping i just kept on going and got back to the car at about 1:00. Great day with awesome views and perfect hiking weather. Pictures coming tomorrow.
