"You recently turned 92. What drives you?
If you’re physically in good condition and you work out, life can be very good until a late age. I do all of this because it’s fun. To ski is fun. To swim is fun. To bike is fun. If you can combine working out everyday with something that’s fun instead of being in a gym, then what a lucky thing that is. It feels good to be healthy.

Do you plan on slowing down?
No. I wouldn’t know what to do if I slowed down."

And, he's spot on about advertising:

"What’s something you wish you could teach the ski industry or change about it?

What I would try to change is the images that are being used for advertising showing someone doing a summersault or in mid-air doing some outrageous stunt. We’re scaring off a lot of people that might consider learning how to ski, "

I was talking this weekend with the one of the owners of the ski shop I frequent at Mount Snow about Klaus. About a week ago out in Denver was the annual Ski Industries of America(SIA) annual show and the shop owner had put a picture of him and Klaus up on his FB page. Said he's still sharp as a tack. I think that we would all hope to still be that active and out on the hill if and when we're his age someday! :)

Only about 1 in ten people lives to be 92. Wonder if he just has good genes or if the exercise really made the difference. Maybe a little of both. The life expectancy at age 92 is four more years. It looks like he could go longer than that.

Right where I want to be
I have an uncle who still rips it at 84. My dad who is 87 and is now stuck in a wheelchair after having both knees and both sides of his hips replaced. Both mentally sharp both opposite physically.

To Morwax: Alzheimer's is an awful thing and robbed me of my mother in her later years.

I doubt if I will live to that age. Most people will be pragmatic to agree. I'll be thrilled if I can ski up until the end. That's the true inspiration in this story.

Sorry to hear about that Morwax. It is often said that the effects of Alzheimer's can be diminished when the brain and the body remain active.
