Date(s) Skied:
December 26th through January 1, 2008

Resort or Ski Area:
Killington

Conditions:
Variable... spring conditions, bullet-proof, fresh manmade, nice powder

Trip Report:
The memorable days were 12/31 and 1/1. Both were excellent powder days with 12/31 being superb early and 1/1 being outstanding late in the day. 12/31 was about 10" of fluff. 1/1 was a good 7 or 8" by the time the lifts stopped spinning and the resort was deserted. It's a very firm base under that new snow. You had better luck on low pitch terrain in the trees. I spent a lot of time in Squeeze Play and did quite a few in Patsys and off the map tree shots like Scarecrow.

The real take-away is that Killington is no longer particularly crowded. Here is a shot taken on the Friday of Christmas week on upper Great Bear. Notice me dodging the people. I poked my nose in the Bear bar a few times and it was deserted. You could get a seat in Mahogany Ridge. The K1 gondola and the Skyeship had moderate lines on the busiest days but the chairlifts were no waiting.

wow. what happened? All these pow days burning out the north easterners???

New Years day is always empty. Killington this year seems to be off a solid 30% in skier visits. They jacked up the $350 blackout season pass price to $600, increased the regular season pass price from $600 to $1K, and killed the ski club discount programs. I've heard that actual revenues are pretty much even with last year since all the day ticket people are paying full price. It's amazing how it detoxed the place.
