Wed- got out early with some buds of mine who talked me into going back- headed up K gondi- surface was a little scratchy do to falling temps from day before but still ok- plenty of room for everybdy- suposedly 45 trails open so we did some exploring- surprised how much was open which was from K peak over to Ramshead but not all lifts were running- covered alot of ground but took a wrong turn on Rams and had to ski thru the tunnel to take Snowshed hsq back up again, lost some time there- best run of the day was Cascade which was bumped up good with a few stones here & there on the sidelines- Highline was fast & had a double falline sloping off right- lower Great bear (i think that was it) had that short but sweet drop off with good snow on it
Thurs- cold enough to freeze the balls off a brass monkey! Minus 1 at base when we got there & somebody said minus 8 up top- gondi was blowing around on the way up, almost hit a tower- up top winds were severe probly 40-50 mph at least- found a short but sweet shoot somewhere off of Bear trax I think with some natural snow- not sure of the name, mebbe Upper Launchpad? Did that a couple times- later a snowboard chick on the gondi said Superstar just opened so we headed over there but turned out she was playing us- it was closed but the guns were blasting away so we made lemonade outta lemons & headed down Sky Hawk where there was some bumps on left trail edge with decent snow pushed to the side thanks to the shredders- later some of my buds ducked into the woods between Northridge Triple & Rimrun- met them at the end where they said the snow was great til the last part where much to there suprise (but not mine) there bases got chewed up by stones- heard the Pike was open but nobody wanted to head over there, oh well mebbe some other time
Fri- less cold, no wind & nothing but blue sky- could see south to Stratton/Mt snow, north to Mansfield....with Mt Marcy & Mt Washington on either side....view was worth the price of admission- first run was down lower East fall where the guns were blowing in a fresh base- artificial snow was deep & grabby so i just blasted through it....'artificial powder', nice! Didnt take to long for it to track out with bumps rising up do to the bigger crowds on Fri. Later we got word Superstar really did open up so we headed over there- it was going great guns but didnt take long for evrybody & his brother to show up- like Grand Central at rush hour but it was cool as i stuck to skiers right where some bumps were forming, away from the guns on the left- upper Ovation opened up with natural snow on the left side- less folks then Superstar but it turned into mashed potatoes eventually which was still fine- on skiers right the white birch trees were shining in the sun with dark conifers behind them- what a sight, wishd i had a camera to post it here- spent pretty much the whole afternoon on those 2 trails, what a treat it was- took a warmdown run along Skylark....& low & behold the Skyship gondi was starting to spin- so they probly opened up some traitl on Sky peak since
Havent been to kmart in years & it seems they made some nice improvements- every worker we came across was very nice & helpful- I dropped my boards off for a overnight stonegrinding job that they did a great job on (boy did my boards need that to), real good crew in the shop-
Unfortunately they cant control the folks who ski there, as there was one moron on Fri who skied by a group of adults taking a lesson stopped on the side of a trail just minding there own business, so what does the moron decide to do? He goes by & yells at the top of his voice to 'GET OFF MY F****G MOUNTAIN!" They all started looking around like, what did we do to him?? HIS mountain??
Well, you didnt do anything to him folks. It's just the crowd that skies there. Theres always one.
