Not to start a flame...but after you ran into the third or fourth person, don't you think that might have been fate giving you a clue to go hit the cruisers?

Good Luck with the knee however

Don't mean to throw more salt on the wounds, but maybe it was God's way of payback? For the almost running into other people? I'm not trying to be mean to ya, but just maybe after the second person you should've watched out a little more for others?

Oh man, major bummer. A skier's worst nightmare... I wish you all the best, a speedy recovery, and many many years of good skiing. Hang in there...

... you'll be back to running into gapers on the trail in no time!!! :)

Dude, I know what you are getting at. Skiing in control and respecting others on the slopes is extremely important. But right now, a fellow skier is down. Getting through the first few weeks and getting back on his feet should be his only focus.

He will have some time to reflect on the day the injury happened and all the incidents preceding the event and draw his own conclusions. IMO, beating him up over it right now isn't the best idea, he has a lot to deal with.

I've skied with Dork many times, he's a very good skier and far from being wreckless. If he had accidents and near accidents, I would definately blame the conditions that day.

Yikers....is that normal to wait THAT long? Did he at least see you before telling you that?

Yes it is normal to wait that long...as a nurse and fellow "f'ed up" knee person...they need to wait until the swelling goes down to be able to see any damage on MRI...i also had to wait 3 weeks but i wasnt able to exercise..i was put in a Bledsoe Brace and had my knee in extension for 23 1/2 hours per day...talk about fucked up!!!

Dork: Good luck. I tore my ACL last February at Sunday River. Leg was strong enough to continue skiing for rest of the year (unbelievable). Had surgery in June, was skiing again in November. Now, knee feels stronger than ever. I wish I could have a reconstruction on my right knee. You will be back in no time.

Thanks again for the wishes

Kris - the doc wrote me a scrip for a Bledsoe brace - is it named for Drew Bledsoe?

Others:

You might have misunderstood my synopsis. There were 2 incidents only

First: Some woman says I "almost" ran into her, which simply means I came close to her. That basically counts for nothing since the trail was extremely crowded and there were near misses happening constantly (lower Bear Claw)

Second: I got out of control due to some unexpected bumps, and when I tried to stop I couldn't quite make it so I had to go down and in doing so I took 2 others with me (who were standing at the top of lower Bear Claw, most K skiers would know where that is, a long line of people were all across the entire ridge). That incident was totally my fault and I immediately apologized for it no doubt.

That being said, I had the same thought - payback for that screw up. I'll take my lumps for whatever god decides to dish out.

I'll still be going up every weekend simply because it's a lot of fun and I love hanging out up there.

Gotta start on the exercises. Went to work today but hell, what seemed like a short walk from the subway to 55 Water is very long when you're limping the whole way. Jeeze!

Seems to me like the conditions and crowds were questionable to begin with, and since you are a more experienced skier you may have decided (reasonably) that you could still push things...

Isn't that what this sport is about? If it were completely safe, would it be as much fun?

Don't be hard on yourself...things just happen sometimes.

I tore about 60% of my acl and put a hole in each meniscus cartilage disc in the winter of '87/'88. I had arthroscopic surgery that same winter and all the doc did was to remove a small flap of cartilage that was causing irritation and swelling. I spent the summer doing physical therapy and was told to just always try to keep the muscles around the knee strong and I should be good. The only thing I stopped doing after that was playing soccer. I have skied hard, biked hard, hiked hard, etc, etc ever since. Once in a while I will have minor soreness (fairly rare). A couple of times I have sprained the knee, I just did it again a little over a week ago :( , but was able to ski the next 5 days on it. The trick is to really just keep your legs in shape. Running, swimming, riding, anything to keep the muscles that help support the knee(s) strong.

Thanks - Looks like I've gotta do that from now on.

I know what you mean - every walk now takes you 2-3 times longer than usual. I went through the same thing last year, but luckily my knee was only bruised. It still took some time to heal though.

Hope your knee is OK. Hang in there

ok, good luck...

But....

I have never taken anyone out

EDIT: Maybe it's because my times out are a lot less then the 30+ I used get out before kids

Actually I can't remember when I ever took someone out before either. But there's always a first time, just like it was my first time ever taken down in a sled, skiing since 1966

It is true though! they fix a hell of a lot better then shoulders.... stupid stupid shoulders. once you dislocate one of those guys you have a 70% chance of doing it again...and your chances increase the more you do it. trust me...i know

<--- falling asleep at work because he had rehab for his shoulder at 6am in the morning

I agree, shoulders suck something fierce  I have a separated AV joint that's been "healing" for oh, I don't know, four years now.

Anyway, dork, I don't know you, but I hope all goes well with your knee!!!

Damned high horses...we keep taking the bong away but they just roll joints instead.

And you've really got to watch out for those high horses on skis. Really dangerous.
