I've been wearing contacts for about 10 years and the past year or two they've given me more and more trouble..and I've been wearing my glasses more and more. Glasses are not an option to ski in for me and I'm thinking about getting Lasik so I can throw out my glasses and contacts forever. Has anybody here had the proceduce performed? How was it? What was the cost? It seems amazing that in 15 minutes, I can have perfect vision...

I got it done 8 years ago. I got the lifetime adjustment thingy. the total cost was like 2300 bucks. Call you health ins company. They will give you a list of places that offer discounts because of your carrier.
Took about 1.5 hours in total and my eyes burned for the evening after the event. The next morning I woke up and could read the alarm clock and have never thought about it since.

If you decide to pull the trigger and have a flexible spending account, wait until January. Set aside the amount of the surgery in your FSA...enjoy a tax free interest free loan as you pay it back each pay period for the rest of the year.

I don't have that..I'd just put it on my Visa card for the points and pay it right off..

How bad are your eyes and what is your problem? It only corrects one thing, you will still glasses for the other problem. i.e. - reading glasses. If your eyes are not bad then it may not seem like a big improvemnt. Always consult and ask questions.

Ha Ha. You know, once you cross into your thirties, it's all down hill! The eyes are the first thing to go!

Actually my eyes got progressively worse until I hit my early thirties. They haven't changed much since. That's why you shouldn't have lasik too early.

GSS you may want to avoid Lasik. From what I understand it makes you see things so clearly that you may find out that Blue is not what you think it is.

Ducking now. :D

Good point. My eyes started to go down the tubes in middle school. Finally leveled out in the last few years with the same script every year. Can't see much further than 6" away from my face without glasses or contacts. Someday... I'm getting less tolerant of contacts now, too, and end up sleeping in my glasses most nights because of the repeated wakings from the kids. Would be nice to be able to wake up and see without having to wear something.

Someday....

I only wear my contact skiing or biking. Too much of a PIA to deal with on a daily basis. I get the 30 day ones and they last me about 6 months. Would love to have lasik, don't think it's in the budget now.

Same here but I didn't need to wear glasses since high school. Once I turned thirty, it got significantly worse, to the point where I really needed to get glasses. I didn't like skiing with glasses, so I switched to contacts. I use the extended wear ones and throw them out every two weeks.

I had it done 9/13/01, best thing I ever did for myself. I was 20/200 and +6 in each eye for an astygmatism.
