How often are you guys at the mountain for last run/final sweep? For me it's not too often. It happens alot on Nastar nights since Nastar goes till 8:30PM and sweep starts around 9:30PM..but on ski trips..I like to be the early bird..eat an early lunch and Peace out around 2:00PM-3:30PM..I not a big fan of flat late afternoon light..especially after skiing 5-6 hours in great visibility.

The old me was on last chair alot more but now if I'm feeling tired..I cash in my chips when I'm ahead..

I'm always there for last chair, usually am on it, or close to it. Kinda nice at the end of the day to wait 10 minutes at the top, and get a nice calm, empty run down the mountain to end the day.

i dont think last run is as important as first run, the trails are usally trashed by then, lights going flat, pretty tired by then, but getting there there for first tracks is the best, fresh groom, fresh legs, crisp cold morning air, mid week no one there, awsome.

At my home mountain, almost everynight I ski. On ski vacations I'm generally wore out by 3.

night skiing at sundown, almost always. but never ever do i make it till 4:00 anymore when and where it counts. I'm too out of shape and too chiken shit to push myself past my limit. I usually quit around 3 or so. and i dont usually start till 10:00.

I'm the anti-core.

Rarely if ever have I been on the mountain for that last run. I usually start on one of the first 10 chairs so the 8:30 to 2:30 with like two 15 minute breaks for snacks is more than enough for me. After 2:30 I'm usually pretty beat (espically if it is extra cold and windy). I think the only time I remember being out past like 3:30 was last year at alta. On the day I arrived I didn't start skiing until 1 so I skied till like 4.

I guess about 30% of the time. I'm usualy trashed by 3:30- 4. Now if it's puking and filling in tracks all day, thats a different story. I never want to leave then.

Depends. If I'm working, obviously, I'm there to the end and beyond. Many times, if I'm skiing on a comp at another area, I stay to help with sweep. It's part of the deal. Otherwise, I leave when I've had enough.

I've almost gave up on last runs . . .

12 years ago, I had a pass to the Arizona Snowbowl (a little north of Flagstaff).

It was a perfect day, about 28 degrees, not a cloud in the sky.

My wife and I were on the 1st chair that day and were racing down to get the final run at 4:00.

I hit some big air and landed in some very soft crud. Unfortunately, the landing was directly on my shoulder. 3 screws later (put your dirty minds away), I am all better.

So 12 years later, my latest approach (now at Mount Snow) is to ski from opening to 11 or 12 and go back out around 3:00 or so. It's a great way to avoid crowds.

Skiing around the Mtn on 2/14 at closing was great. I had my alpinas on after some laps on heavier skis that morning, was loving the blizzard of love. Skiied both pitchs of waterfall and lower goat on those skis. I'm not that good a skier, there was so much freaking snow coming down I was just cruising down at maybe 10 MPH straight down the fall line. It had to be snowing 4-6 inches an hour that afternoon. Never seen it snow like that. Great way to close the place down in the afternoon. Didn't sleep much St. Valentines night 07. Ended up being the best of that storm for me. One lap then next day and found the wind had hammered it pretty bad up high. 60 mph gusts. Came back down to town and put the XC gear back on and skiied the cliff band behind my house. 10-15 footers onto a drifted apron of snow 6-8 feet deep in my parking lot. So much snow. And love the light gear. Everyone should have some turny XC skis like the Alpina Cross Terrains or the Fat Fisher Outtabounds or Karhu Guides. Great apre POW weapons.

Always when night skiing. In fact, I get pissed if a run I think is going to be my seccond to final run turns out to be the last because I don't get back to the lift in time. During the day, I rarely ride the final lift. I usually quit by 3-ish.

I almost never make it to last run due to a competing interest: beer.

I like hanging out at the end of the day in the ski lodge bar with friends or to chat with other skiers, and the atmosphere is always better with more people around. Since most people stop skiing well before 4, I usually cry uncle around 2:30/3:00 and join them.

several years ago at BW, I didn't think I was on the last run, but i was the only one on the west end lift and about half way up it stopped, I sat there for about 20 minutes before the SP sweeper came by, he was rather surprised to see me sitting there!!

if there's a reason to be out for last run.. I'm there...
Just like if there's a reason to be out early - I'm there...

I'm more of a "crack of noon" guy at my home hill... But when i travel i tend to get out early...

you know what I've grown into? skipping first chair for an extra cup of coffee, and missing last chair entirly to save the energy for the next day.

I used to wake up way to early for first chair, but then realized you can go off the map and still get fresh at 9 or 10 am. I used to stay all day untill I couldn't do another turn, then realized that beer tastes just as good at 3 as it does at 5.

When I'm skiing, I just go with whatever's comin my way, and I'm ok with that. All the work involved in first, last, no breaks... Im over it. Give me some snow, and some short lift lines, when my times up, I'll pack up. No injuries = more skiing.

I almost always make last run. We usually don't start until 9:30-10am. Ski hard all morning, stop for lunch around 1pm, and then slowly wind down until last run. It's nice to take the last lift, wait about 10 minutes on the side of the trail, and then have the place to yourself for the last run.
