So what did everyone learn?

5. Don't get hurt.

I learned that skiing with you could result in serious injury which requires off-season surgery.

Hopefully I will get patched up and will be as good as new so that we can do it again next season. Minus the whole getting hurt thing.

I also made some great AZ connections this year, and look forward to making turns with them again next year - and hopefully with some new AZers, too.

Get in better shape before ski season and do more to stay that way throughout the winter. Skied a lot with the kids so I didn't really work too hard on most of my trips so the few times I was on my own my fitness level held be back some. Still had a good time however!

Great advice. Staying in shape I think could help prevent injury.
I though I was in good shape and pretty much was except for a few self inflicted ...dumb things,Not taking my vitamins and staying hydrated. Getting older I need to pay more attention to details.

I can't help but feel like a few us may have influenced some of these!

And you influenced my GF to follow random small paths into the woods. Had to say "No that's the Octopus Garden" at MRG. Thank you though. She has been nuts since that day and not much fear. She was hopping ledges the rest of the year.

Haha she's awesome. You should always follow small paths into the woods. Next year I will show you guys around the OG and beyond!

Great thread.

1. Get the wife and daughter skiing next season. It was hard to leave them on a Saturday or Sunday. Even if my 30-month old daughter only does a couple runs, it is better than not skiing.

2. I appreciated ever single minute on skis. As a result of new job and family I could not get out as often as I would have liked. So making the most of each run was key.

3. Be present when you are skiing. Forget about work. Forget about stupid crap. Focus on the skiing--the snow, views, cool air, and being up high.

4. Just go. I had a couple weekends where I planned on going for a few hours and would drag my feet until it was too late. Those were tough work weeks wishing I had skied.

5. Rockered skis do rock. In deep snow that is; not so much on ice.

JDMRoma learned not to follow Cannonball and me.

Haha nope didn't learn that at all, had way too much fun with you guys !

What I did learn was........ski with people who are in your same frame of mind.....partially nuts, enjoy the day and take what you can from every one as the season goes by way to fast.slow down and enjoy a beer or two...or three :)

This was a big one for me this year. I had a lot going on and let it seep into my skiing. Not only can it detract from enjoyment, but it can also result in injury. I took a couple bad falls due to lack of focus.

Big one for me:

Pre season conditioning is key. I didn't do any and for that reason I didn't feel like I was in full ski shape until late December/early January.

Moguls are the biggest indicator of ski fitness or lack thereof

The amount you have to stop and catch your breath or let your legs rest on hike-to terrain is another one. Thankfully I felt I was in pretty good shape by the time I hiked the highlands bowl, which is a pretty long hike

Right where I want to be
Skiing with my family can actually be a lot better than skiing with friends. My family doesn't drink too much and actually gets up in the morning before 9 and can be on the slopes well before my alcoholic slow moving lazy friends. On a side note I may drink too much but can always get up early to ski.

Great topic.

I have serious snow addiction. it is getting beyond the pale.

Skiing in BC is awesome. Cat skiing can be done for a relatively affordable cost.

The earlier you get out on the hill the better the skiing is.

respect the wind. Had a slight wind burn issue skiing through winter storm Vulcan.

I need to make enough money to move to VT.

There are some great podcasts to listen to on the long drives.

Good point! We had several days where we hemmed and hawed to the point it was no longer worth going! We are hoping with the season pass to Cannon that this will be less likely!

I learned (already knew) that I have a great bunch of friends that I ski with. What a fun season it was. But it went by to fast. Next season will be with us before we know it.

Yeah, this is a big one. I stay in good shape but focus and intensity are key. Important right from the start of the season.

I'm with you on this MMW. Have had mine for prob 7 yrs now and over 225 days....I cant get them tight anymore. Have started looking for new options for next season.

Replace liner with Zipfits , worth the money, great fit, warm, very good performance
