All season I've noticed that Smuggs snow report has just been lying through their teeth. This weekend was the absolute worst though. They were claiming that runs were open when they were closed all weekend. Calling it the "No-Bull SnowReport" is the biggest joke in the business.
For example, they claimed the following runs were open:
Liftline - I understand why they said this was open - the bottom 1/4 was open. They need some way to identify which sections are actually open though - maybe something like Stowe where they have a checkmark with P for partially open.
Robin's Run - They said it was open. It wasn't.
Freefall - Didn't actually get over there. It was closed from the top - maybe open from Freefall Traverse?
Black Hole - They said it was open but as far as I know the only ways to get there are from Liftline and Robin's. So there was no open trail leading to it.

Yea, Stowe had all the trails marked open on Saturday and Sunday morning, and they were in good shape. If I was to just glancew at the web site, I would have thought the whole place was open, but the reality was there were no lifts running to serve them. In general though, I would say Tom gives great reports. I'ts kinda weird that they have him doing shout-outs in the middle of it, like, "Happy anniversary so and so, and happy birthday whosie whats, and the quad is still on wind hold..." Everything is a plug or an add up there. God bless cooperate america for slowly draining the soul outta that place....

rant off...

Could you ski the back bowls this past weekend @ Smuggs?
Yeah, they were in pretty good shape in most spots. There were some pretty sketch spots where people decided that if they couldn't ski it they would make it so no one could ski it. You could tell that people found something over their head and just slipped down it, essentially ruining it for everyone. There were also some other rocks and stumps lurking at snow level or just beneath. Thigh deep pow in a lot of places, although even the more remote lines got pretty skied out by Sunday afternoon.
