I would consider Wildcat to be on the small size of 'medium' as a ski area. It's lodge is the perfect size to handle their crowds on even the most busy days.

Enough tables that a random person doesn't push my jacket onto the floor off my chair:blink:when I'm getting food..that happened at the upper mountain lodge..glen lodge I think at Sugarbush..I saw the person do it when I was waiting for my food..and immediately walked over and said..."No No No"..it's a good think I was in a good mood from several powder runs or that person was going to get bitch slapped..

I like lodges where you can take your skis with you in the first floor like Blue..my favorite ski lodges smell like a combination of feet, french frys and urine..

Things I like a midsized lodge at a midsized resort to have...

-Lunch served early..11AM is steezy..a few minutes before is even steezier..alot of midsized ski areas with a midsized lodge still charge a high amount for food. I am willing to pay $15 for lunch at Jackson Hole but not at Camelback...yet food prices are about the same..lame..

-Fake palm trees..it adds to the vibe..

-piped in music..preferably techno or 80s sitcom theme songs..for Stoke!!!

-Classic Warren Miller ski flicks on the TV in the bar...extra stoke for Greg Stump footage..double extra stoke if it's Meatheads or Junk Show Diaries which chronicled the 105 inch 5 day dump at Bridger Bowl..back in late 02...

-lots of garbage cans, benches, lockers, cubby holes, tables more than 14 inches apart..

-bathrooms on 1st floor..ski lodge steps can be more trecherous than the Front four at $towe.

-vending machines..Jack and Jill went up the hill each with a buck and a quarter and they got some Resses..the end..

I don't think ski lodge size for a Medium sized area which pretty much is relative..it all depends on how user friendly it is. At alot of medium sized ski resorts..with medium sized lodges..people are out mainly for the skiing..but a few nice touches like a large fireplace..inexpensive snacks..and pure function is great. It's hard not the notice the different architechural styles..I'm not going to choose a mid sized ski area based on the lodge..but I'll be more likely to utilize a lodge if it is efficient..

The uber fancy new hotel at Stowe is a little bit overkill..but it has automatic doors which the uber low frills Blue mountain has as well. Automatic doors are nice..like at Target..mad steezy yo!!!!

As long as there's room for a bar and a bathroom, that's plenty IMHO ;) Everything else is just icing on the cake!

GSS makes some thoughtful points. However, I'm a minimalist at heart and don't desire to see our resorts turn into SMR or Stratton with $100 tickets forthcoming. I'd rather control the costs, hey I'm there to be outside anyways. It's a glorified changing room and warming hut to me. The more we expect, the more will come, and it is a pervasive, cancerous growth that once begun is hard to control.
