Perhaps as this season winds down it might be interesting to hear about some "New Ski Year's Resolutions".

A ski area long overdue on your list ? Conditioning/skill goals ? Walking the talk on being a ski bum for a season. Skiing with a high school buddy or college roommate you haven't seen in 14 years. You get the picture.

One, for me, is a glaring omission on my Northeast ski area list - Sugarloaf. It's happening in 2005-6, ya heard it here first. The itch gets scratched. A press conference is scheduled for 10:00 am this Saturday at Tucks...

Great Topic.
1 have myself and family stay healthy.
2 Beat last years ski totals something in the low 60's.
3 Get a little more daring woods, bumps, even the weight out on my skies.
4.Get some great trips together.
5.Have the groups base increase and have more fun.

#1 - Actually go skiing next season. ;)
#2 - Get more comfortable with speed and having people around me (I'm still learning; only 1 season under my belt).
#3 - Get more comfortable with skiing all over the trails instead of the same line every time.
#4 - Focus on the harder blues and blacks (which around here, are more the equivalent of greens and blues up north ;) ).

Yeah, my goals may not be much compared to most of you. But hey, that's what I need to work on.

Tough to answer this one... we only had 10 days but it was really a watershed year for the whole family:

Daughter discovers bumps and never looks back...
Wife finally gets brand new boots and instantly feels the improvement...
I finally purchased my new long-term skis that I settled on last spring...
First time at Loon for me & the missus...
First time from the Cannon tram for the daughter...
All of us got *lots* of new experience in the ungroomed...

Mostly the feeling that for the first time in quite awhile, a lot of the "stuff" is out of the way and we can just go ski and have fun. I guess that's the goal for next year, right there. And hopefully to meet some of you folks, I'll be happy to help bring up the rear of the pack!

My goals for next season would be:

#1) To ski the last three remaining resorts/areas in Vermont that remain unskied: Bolton Valley, Cochran's and Bear Mountain Resort.

#2) Extend the season to 8 months or more if possible in the east.

#3) Take a trip out west with my son.

#4) Improve my son's skiing with lessons and on snow experience.

#5) Ski at least 30-40 days next season.

OK, here are my lists for the next year.

Personal goals:
- Get in shape (would help out a lot more than just skiing)
- Spend more quality time with the family
- Get stuff done around the house (so I don't feel so guilty during ski season)
- Find a warm-weather activity that captures my interests like skiing does

Skiing goals:
- Get out more next season than last year (11 times or more)
- Get out to one of the "bigger" areas in northern NH, VT, or ME
- Get some decent equipment for my wife (so she doesn't have to suffer with questionable rental equipment)
- Help my wife and daughter to improve to the point of skiing an area from the summit
- Learn how to ski in the bumps and on natural trails and hopefully help my son to do the same (tree skiing can wait a few years)
- Get out skiing a few times with people other than my family, especially those who can ski better than me (as long as I don't hold them back); not that I don't enjoy going with my family, but a day away would be a different experience...

1. Quit smoking (that's a big one)
2. Get in better shape (eliminating #1, goes along way towards that goal)
3. 25+ days out (number would be a lot higher if money allowed)
4. Ski the Chin at Stowe, which I haven't done in 4 years
5. Ski Burke and Whiteface - the last remaining mountains in the Northeast that I have always wanted to try
6. Tuckermans

You can do it! I smoked heavily but quit years ago. If I can do, you can do it. Don't know how much you smoke but don't be afraid to use nicotine replacement -- even more than the standard programs and for longer durations if needed. I work with an addiction doc who often gives heavy smokers (2+ packs a day) as much as 42mg/day.

My goals for next year are pretty simple. Stay healthy, have fun, and ski at least one more day than last year. I'd also like to improve my skiing on ice and crud, though I know I've gotten better I still basically suck on that stuff. Also hope to take a couple of ski vacations to new and exotic places.

1. beat last years mark of 21times out, but i didnt start till jan 6th so that shouldnt be a problem, plus i already purchased my season pass so im ready to go.

2. Actually make it to the bottom of a long run skiing with my tongues of my boots touching my shins and not slowing down once because of fear of what could happen if i dont at least make a few hockey stops along the way.

3. taking up the bumps, and then the glades, still trying to figure out if its better to just go inbetween them or over them? any thoughts on that by the way?
