Well, as some have seen in this thread, I may not be able to ski at Burke this year. A lot of you got my help in skiing there and I thank you for your interest and for following my reports.

To make a long story short, looking for a place that would like my business. I am a law student, very loyal, can write some pretty good TR's like these, and refer folks to the winner mountain.

I'm on a budget. Am a student, so a student pass is desired. Lots of good suitors. Have had great service at Sugarbush and Jay before as a student. Might go there...

Last season I helped contribute a substantial amount of biz and $$$ to Burke. Maybe they will help me this season, but if not, it is up for grabs.

Some positive input here...what mountains do you suggest? I am an expert, ski everything guy. Ms. TB likes different terrain as well and is a high intermediate.

Again, just looking for help...

Hey, trailboss. Every lawyer should learn when it's time to walk away from a bad deal. I think this is that time.

Based on your old TRs and other posts, it seems that your other favorite mountain is Pico. Now I know that the pass situation at K and Pico is still up in the air. But, assuming that the new owners don't screw it up, if they offer a college card for this mountain, you should go for it.

But, assuming that they screw that up to, then I'll be waiting for your TRs from Cannon or the 'Bush.

cannon/gunstock/sunnapee is a descent deal. maybe not enough expert terrain for you though. cannon gets similar snow to burke, just more wind scouring. as you probably know there is a lot cool routes to do @ mittersill.

At $199, the any day MRG student pass is a no brainer.

You're right, SM. Looking at this as a possible opportunity.

This is a serious option I am considering...did it in 2005-2006.

If a Killington pass is expensive, I'm considering a Pico only pass if they offer it.

We had no problems with Killington last season. I am thinking K-Mart student for me, Pico for Ms. TB. Go from there...

And thanks for the good vibes folks.

Also considering:

Middlebury Snow Bowl ($200 for an adult)
Dartmouth ($200 or so for Ms. TB, $300 for me).

Just was looking at SB pictures...man I miss skiing there...

i would have a hard time buying a pass there. seems to work out pretty good with a mad card to supplement a pass. i had some pretty tough days over there but also some epic ones when the snow is good. personally i would need other options.

UPDATE: Burke just hiked pass prices. Adult is now $545 (not bad hike). "Student" who is not in NEK is now up to $345.

Going back to the days when Jay ate Burke's lunch. From 2001-2004 or so Burke and Jay offered the same pass with same reciprocity. Jay sold theirs for $199. Burke offered theirs for $365. Guess who sold more passes? Burke changed their price after "someone" offered a subtle hint that they were getting ripped off.

Cannon and Jay are now better priced for me. Mittersill or Tram here I come I guess

Can we expect a Cannonpoluza? :)

Hey, we'll see. Pico and Killington....keeping my fingers crossed.

We've got to ski together some more. Three outings last season. Pretty good. I have been finding that in the last few years that I ski more and more with AZer's and KZer's now. What I will miss at Burke are the folks I know there.....but I had a great time the last day at K-mart with the crew. What a great bunch.

TB, based on Ginn's moves in Colorado, I wouldn't be surprised if they eventually make Burke a members-only NEK ski resort. Raising pass prices (and maybe ticket prices) can be designed to appeal to a higher tax bracket and keep the riff-raff out (i.e., yours truly). There's a certain high-end feel to Burke nowadays from the look and feel of the Tamarack Grill to the creature comforts like ski and bag check-ins. It's the Deer Valley kind of experience that they hope will appeal to the hedge fund crowd.

Whether it's Cannonpalooza, Jay-a-palooza, Picopalooza or K-apalooza next year, count me in. It was good to wind down the season hiking and skiing with old new friends. Little SM is hell-bent on getting a pass in ME. I'll have to use superhuman powers to convince her to travel a bit west into VT!
